Default 04 Cavalier no start

Hoping to pick somebody'* brain on this no start problem. 04 Cav. 2.2 ecotec. Cranks fine, has 60 PSI fuel press. car just cranks like it isnt getting fuel. I can pull the air duck hose loose, give it 1 small shot of starting fluid.. starts and runs like a champ til you shut it off. will not start again.
I have replaced coolant temp sensor, crank pos sensor, new plugs, new air filter, new fuel filter. nothing has made any diff.
small shot of ether, and yur back on the road til you shut it off.
any help appreciated.

forgot.. no codes, no lights

Are the injectors firing?

Not sure if PassLock disables the starter on this vehicle....if it doesn't, that could be your problem.........when you release the key after cranking, does the THEFT light flash? If no, you need a scan tool capable of reading "B" codes.....most scanners/code readers can't....looking for a B2958 or B2960....

Try holding the accelerator to the floor and see if it tries to start. This happened to me a few weeks ago and it turned out that the timing tensioner failed, which caused it to jump time one tooth (thus the hard start.). The loose chain broke a timing guide as well. Good luck.

i dont have a diagram for that exactly but most gms have a redundant pump circuit. the way it normally works the pcm actuates the relay and that energizes the pump, but there is also a oil switch that bypasses the relay and that to keep it running should something happen. so i think there is likely something wrong with the relay, power or pcm feed to the relay or the relay socket is bad.

thanks to you all for the responses, I ended up taking the car to a dealer after i got tired of messing with it. they have diagnosed it to be the PCM. not sending signal to injectors on start up. I dont have it back yet, so theres still a chance they are wrong.

Uh no. If you hold it to the floor the PCM will automatically think you are trying to do a "clear flood mode". When the PCM sees 90% or higher in the throttle, it will turn off the injectors while starting. How you got your car to start is beyond me.

Yes, I took the car to the Local Chev dealer. after the first day, they called and said "it'* Done". I went and picked up the car and they told me it just needed the throttle body cleaned. lol. they said "it starts every time" so, very skeptically, I paid them for their time and drove car back to my shop, and after I shut it off it would not start back. so I removed the air intake hose from the air box and gave it a shot of ether.. started right up. so I drove it right back to the dealer. this time, after a week now, they have diagnosed it to be the PCM. havent heard back from them yet.

Now if this was a 4.3, I would immediately tell you that it'* a marginal fuel pump, or partially plugged fuel filter(always replace the filter first)....the shot of ether does not make sense that it'* a PCM......

I think they dropped the ball on this one.......probably did not act up for them, and they made a guess....would love to see the snapshot data of this when it won't start....

anyone who says they worked on it for a week is not really working on it. i wouldnt leave the car with anybody for a day let alone a week. they obviously dont have a clue. i would be getting my money back. and fix it your self or take it to someone who knows what they are doing.
