of course if you still have time before the sticker runs out you should probably just try to fix it, iv had a bunch of different evap codes on that stupid bonnie and everytime seems to be right before the sticker runs out, i just dont want you to think fixing it is not a good idea, i sometimes will sneak it by to give myself time to fix it

Yeah...unfortunately the sticker was up at the end of June and my temp sticker runs out this coming Friday (7/15).

This EVAP garbage is the only thing holding me up from a sticker.

I do intend to fix it...my dad picked up a purge canister and we are dropping the tank later tonight to see if anything is cracked up there.
But if I can find a way to trick the NY computer to buy me some extra time, it would be awesome.

I don't have the big $$ to throw at this thing to have it done by a garage ($75 just for the smoke test), cuz I'm on a super tight budget until the end of August when the home I'm buying closes.

i hear ya, i dont know if it crosses from my bonnie but most of my problems come from the lines from the purge valve to the canister it goes rubber-plasic-rubber-metal-rubber. i got a vaccuum pump tester ($20-30) so i could put the right vacuum on it to see what was going on, i ended up just replacing the whole mess with one rubber line

Good news: it looks like we found the culprit.

We replaced the Vapor Canister Purge Valve:

Then we took it for a long ride. Got 80+ miles on the car since we swapped it out...so far, no light.

I'll be running the car to the garage this afternoon to finish up the inspection. Finally.

Thanks to everyone for the assistance! I'll be sure to stick around to help others where I can.

Whoa. Not so fast.

The light came on again this morning. Had 95 miles on the car. Both systems read fine yesterday when the car got inspected. Now this is just getting odd.

Since I'm not in some sort of panicked rush to get a sticker on the car, I need to iron this out so I'm not chasing it next summer.

One thing that I observed that may or maynot be coincidental....the fuel level.

Before today, the light came on after driving 41 miles.
Today the light came on at 95 miles.

In both instances, the fuel level was reading slightly over 1/4 full.

Is there something on the sending unit that could be tripping this?

In the meantime, I went back to square one. I reset the light and put the OEM gas cap back on. Now that I have time, I may as well rule out everything step by step...

if you had a leak in the tank would be the only way to get an evap code from that, but there are lots of things that will give you the code unfortunately, vent valve sticking open, sending unit seal, all the lines, etc...
