Default Future Of Cadillac

Hi, is Cadillac going to have a future? Will there be a Cadillac sedan? A Cadillac that is not just an uptrimmed generic GM model?
Will the EPA’* canning the mileage and emissions standards help a revival?
Mow that I have retired and can buy what I want, there is nothing at a GM or any other dealer for that matter, that I want; that I see and just have to have.

Definitely, especially with the Escalade still attracting lots of attention. As long as they can generally keep the engines from coming apart for the terms of their leases and during the first few years of ownership for buyers, they'll have a future. Nobody else has reliably competed with the Escalade for very long since it came out on the GMT800 platform.

There are several right now . . . and yes, by "several" I mean two. I think I know what you mean though: Cadillac sedans like the Eldorado and Fleetwood and Sedan de Ville and their TLA counterparts like the ETC, STS, DTC, etc. I don't see any of those being rebooted anytime soon. That'* too bad in my opinion. I believe there is a place for those without some of the burdens of the Northstar V-8s. If GM doesn't think it can sell lots of them, they likely won't design them, let alone build them. I think their last gasp of a good "big" sedan was the STS in 2019 and 2020.

LOL well that'* a bit of a loaded question. Cadillac has done this off and on for decades, especially back when the classic sedans were still in the showrooms. Yeah different engines and fenders, but lots of inherited stuff. The latest 2017-2020 CT6 is a great example of them actually building a sedan platform from scratch, just for Cadillac. They didn't sell enough to keep building them though. That generation CT6 was the first generation in a very long time not to end up related to anything else, although they did build the Buick Avenir concept on it from what I understand.

Maybe, if they see profit in it. I believe there is a version of the CT6 in China on the VSS platform. Front-engine rear-drive. Could be a good car in the US if it can pass safety standards. They've been using various GM engines in China on their last bunch of Cadillac models. Mostly 3.6 V-6'*. I don't think emissions rules are rolling back enough that GM sees profit in a segment that hasn't done well for them over the last decade, but you never know where shifting currents will take them.

I wouldn't buy anything brand new these days, except maybe an Expedition. They seem to be doing okay enough, without too much drama included. Much better to find a good used example that has had all of the bugs worked out of it.
