Question Folding Mirrors - Fully Automatic

Does anyone know, or have they done this with the CT6? I love the fact that I can 'manually' fold them, but sometimes I forget and go to look out the mirror and almost scare myself to death when I can partially see a gray bearded man looking back at me.

Do not get me wrong, I love my CT6. Just find it odd that this is not a setting. The lady next door has a 2017 Hyundai Sonata (loaded) --- I know apples to bananas, but when she parks the car and turns it off, the mirrors fold in. When she gets in and starts it - they unfold.

Is there some way - setting with the OBD-II or something?

Speaking of OBD - I traded in my 2011 Lincoln Town Car on the CT6 - and I have the OBD-II that I made many changes and even programmed new keys to the car with. Will that adapter work with the Caddy (and the Camaro as well) and some software to do things within the ECM/BCM, etc.?

Much appreciated in advance.

I see an option for folding mirrors. Just making sure I have this right: You are certain your car does not have this option?

They FOLD, just manually. I am looking to see if they can be set, or made to fold without using the mirror control inside or the key fob. Car OFF = FOLD MIRRORS, Car ON = UNFOLD MIRRORS.

Can you post a pic of your RPO sticker?

Please explain what that is going to show? I already know that they fold. I have read the entire owner'* manual 2 times. I know how to manually fold them. The ask is, how can they be set to do it automatically.

The RPO panel from my car is going to show nothing.

It'* going to show what options this vehicle was built with.

I also know that they fold. I've seen these cars from the outside.

Right. Got it.

Does it have the option already built in and it is just disabled or malfunctioning on your car?

Does it not have the option already built in? If this is the case, this can not be simply "set to do it automatically" like you are looking to do. The mirror assemblies would likely need to be replaced with units that are properly equipped, and wiring would need to be run to the BCM if it isn't already there. Likely some programming would need to be done as well.

I'm sure you saw that your owner'* manual says "If equipped" about the power folding mirrors on page 33:

We can't divine a clear answer to this from a screen on the far side of the Internet without seeing RPO codes or some other substantial evidence, such as the mirror assembly connectors and/or mirror assembly internals and/or menu options in the computer.

How would you like to proceed?

I know about both of those options for my mirrors, and both of those work just fine. I see no need to provide you with RPO codes for my car - as I have already stated that the MANUAL PROCESS (of using the mirror control in the car and the fob) both work.

I asked if there was a way to get them to do it automatically. My neighbor'* 2017 Hyundai Sonata (loaded) does it automatically when she shuts if OFF. The mirrors fold in. When she starts it, they fold out. I know it is a HYUNDAI, but in a class comparison to the 2020 Cadillac CT6, it is 2-3 rungs down the ladder (especially in price).

I do not wish to sound ungrateful, but I do not see a reason to provide that info. In the world today, every ounce of info you share...can turn into a pound of trouble.

RPO codes tell the world nothing specific about you or your car except the options it was sold with. There'* an RPO code for the paint color, air conditioning, type of transmission, etc. The VIN tells all of us more, and that is publicly displayed in the windshield.

Regardless, you didn't come here for an RPO lesson.

Ahhhhhh . . . now we're getting somewhere.

So by "manually" you mean "electrically" with both controls as described on page 33 of your manual, not "manually" like walking up to each one and putting your hand(*) on the mirror housing and folding it, or alternately by getting too close to that yellow pole at the drive-thru and folding it.

Now that I understand what you mean by "automatically", I believe the answer is "no". Best I can find is pages 140 and 143 of your owner'* manual where they describe turning the feature on and off to allow you to electrically fold and unfold by using the remote:

Otherwise, I see no automatic folding mirror feature on this car in the owner'* manual, the brochure, and at sites like Edmunds.

Yep, but they are happy to add features like that in order to sell cars. If I had to guess, I'd guess that GM looked at doing this on your car and calculated that they didn't want to make your mirrors do the same thing, as this would vastly increase the wear on these parts and they don't want to have to warrantee any more than they can get away with.

Totally understand. At the same time, just for reference, RPO codes are one of those things you can share about your car that won't do any harm. Many more pounds of trouble can be caused by knowing that you live in Atlanta, have this car, have the 1-owner Camaro in Yellow and black (including picture), and a neighbor with a 2017 Sonata.

Even then, it'd take a dedicated effort by an organization with vast DMV resources to triangulate any further than that. What paint color or what type of wheels or what transmission it came with, also came on thousands of others.

I appreciate the 'grilling' on what I choose to share.

Yes by Automatic, I meant like my neighbor'* Sonata. I was more asking - 'could it be done in the BCM?'. I have an old OBD-II adapter that I used with my Lincolns and wondered if it would (a) work with the Caddy and Camaro with software, and (b) what software is needed, and (c) if the OBD-II will not work - what will?

On a side note - like with my Lincoln, you could in the BCM/ECM change the TPMS pressure which triggered an alert. Can this be done on the GM cars?

Thanks again for the responses. I do appreciate the help. I also notice that my signature puts a '?' where the uploaded image should be. <frown>

. . . and now you have a Lincoln, too!

But seriously, for here or anywhere, you don't have to worry about sharing RPO codes. This might help you out someday.

I bet it can not. GM isn't as open with this kind of thing as Ford (therefore Lincoln) is with Forscan and the like. If you try it and find a setting that does it, I'd be amazed, and it would be great if you post the details here for the world'* benefit!

OBD2 to USB? Probably.

I've heard a lot of folks talk about HPTuners, but I haven't tried it yet.

GM uses the OBD2 port for everything.

Gotta love Forscan!

I think with HPTuners. I know the dealership can do it if you can find a skilled tech that is willing and allowed to do it.

I'm looking into this.
