Default 2017 Escalade warranty issues

Hello all, My girlfriend recently bought a 2017 Escalade. The car needs servicing, however when we called a local Cadillac dealer in Illinois, they said that the car is Canadian and they can't do anything. When buying the car, we did not catch the fact that the car was sold and used in Canada previously. What options do we have? Shouldn't Cadillac cover the vehicle since it'* an American car anyways? Any words of advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
Interesting situation you have there. Did you buy the vehicle in the USA from another dealer or private sale?

Thanks! I bought it from another dealer, not Cadillac though.

Did dealer ever verbally disclose to you that this was a previously registered Canadian vehicle?
Or on the vehicle sale documentation is it disclosed?
How long ago did you purchase vehicle?

Today I spoke with our warranty clerk and was told that as long as the repair needed fall under the vehicles warranty it should be covered as long as the warranty has not expired by time or mileage. The dealer has to convert KM to Miles before submitting the claim. We have repaired and sold many Canadian vehicles here. They can not be sold as GM Certified or Warrantied as GM certified. The applicable warranties can be viewed by asking the dealer to run a VIS. Then you will know what coverage'* have expired and which ones still apply. Hope this helps.

Mall the copies that we got from the saw do not disclose that it was a Canadian vehicle, and it definitely was not disclosed verbally to us. There was a lot of paperwork to sign, however, so it’* possible that we overlooked it, and just didn’t get the copy of it.

Thanks for the info. It’* gonna be a good couple weeks before we can make it back in to the dealership. This time we are going to another one to see if we hear something different. We will ask for the VIS.

This is where some local calls should be made. In the USA what normally are the rules regarding disclosure of a Can Vehicle sold in the USA? Possibly the DMV (motor vehicles) can explain further.
As I am a Canadian I do not have the knowledge about US law regarding this.
Canadians certainly do have many protectionism laws about a dealer sale re: full disclosure from origin, previous taxi usage, including full title search, vehicle repair history, claims etc, must be provided to consumer before the sale.
Please post back what happens when you visit the next dealer and find out what rights you may have regarding dealer necessary disclosures, or call a lawyer.
