what yr did the 3800 use the better UIM ?
I am looking at a 2002 Park Ave to replace my 99 Park Ave. Did they chg the UIM or LIM gaskets on the 2002 model ??
I am having a hard time deciding on a replacement car. I love the Park Ave but its getting over 200k and I usually sell them at about 220k.
My choices are Lincoln Town Car ( rear wheel drive V8 ) Caddy DTS ( v8 front wheel drive ) or a Park Ave IF I can find a low mileage one ( 60k or less ) which hasnt been easy.
I want a big car with heated seats etc..

As far as I know, the 3800 Series I/II only used a plastic UIM. It wasn't until the Series III that the metal ones appeared, which to answer your question, I think was 2004. (You can put a S3 UIM on a S2, but it'* a decent amount of work.)
Not sure when the metal LIM gaskets started showing up, but retrofitting those is trivial.

what year did the redesign the plastic uim to use the smaller stove pipe so it didnt melt the uim ?? I know the new UIM I used on mine had the smaller stove pipe, I thought GM started uing that on the series 2 ??
