Default Hi - Brand new here, and I have a question about a 1995 Buick Regal+

it'* a V6 3.8 liter engine. It'* my mom'* car and we need to sell it for her. it runs well, (some brake work needs to be done, no biggie) but she had a new battery put in it a while back and when I was looking under the hood just to check fluid levels, I saw there is a wire with a light purple plastic plug-in end on it that isn't hooked to anything. It comes out of a wire bundle (there'* like a corrugated wire cover over it and some other wiring) that has a tag reading "8887" on it and the wire'* pretty short. I'm sure it would help to have a photo of it, so I'll take one and try to attach it later on today, but I thought I would just post the info and see if anyone would happen to have *any* idea where/to what this wire goes? It'* on the right had side of the engine compartment, just to the left of the washer fluid bottle and a bit closer to the firewall than the bottle. The "service engine soon" light also comes on when the car'* running, and I suspect the two things are related.

Oh, and we have an OBD I reader that won't connect/read the car, so I wonder if it'* one of those awful transitional series that isn't quite OBD II and isn't quite OBD I? I want to be rid of this ^%)*@#(! car. Soon.

ANY suggestions/advice/help you could offer would be very much welcomed! Thanks so much.

Kim

I need pics to identify it unfortunately.

Also, yes, '95 was a dreaded "OBD 1.5" year, so you will need appropriate equipment to scan it or pull codes unfortunately. What Make/Model of scanner are you trying to use?

Default 1.5 - I was afraid of that....

It'* an innova 3120. It says its compatible with OBD 1 and 2, - I didn't even know there was a 1/5 until I started doing some research after the reader wouldn't read it.:-?

I'll take some photos tonight and post them. Thank you very much for your reply!

Yep, I just looked at the manual for the scanner, and it won't work for this one, but you already beat me to it. The scanner needs to specify it is specifically compatable with your specific vehicle. It doesn't usually specify 'OBD 1.5' but will list the 94-95 3800'* as compatible if it will work.

I use an Actron 9145 which works great for OBD 1, but has been hit or miss for OBD 2, and I don't believe it does CANBUS at all.

I have a 91 Olds Toronado with the 3800 V6 and have a plug that comes out of the harness near the left fender and it is a fuel pump prime connector according to my manual. Hope this helps.

Default Hi again - here are the photos of the loose wire that I posted about+

Or at least I *hope* they're here.

I don't know why I thought the plug in thing was purple... It'* clearly not - it'* gray!!!

Anyway, if anyone can suggest what this is and where it plugs in, I would be eternally grateful!

Thanks so much for your help - I do appreciate it.

Ok, you need to look at the photos sideways... The wire is on the right side of the engine compartment as you stand in front of the car looking into the compartment. If you would position yourself to the right of each photo, (or pretend you are to the right and looking into the engine bay) that'* the orientation that I was at when I took the photos. If you were to print the photos, what is the right side of each pic above would actually be the bottom of the photo if you were to hold it up and look at it - does that make *any* sense? Not sure why they're sideways, but they are.

Tommyb may actually be right, it may be the fuel pump prime wire. That is the style of connector gm uses for that. I will look on my 94 when I get a chance. If that is the case, it shouldn't be connected to anything.

I confirmed I have the same wire on my Regal, and it is not connected to anything currently in my case either.

Thank you so much Rjolly87.... that is very odd, don't you think? Well, at least I can be pretty sure it'* not causing the SES light to come on, but now I have to get another reader to see why it is on! I'll be sure and look to see that it will read the 94-95 3800s, like you said.
Thank you very much for your help, everyone. It'* very much appreciated.
