problems with steering rack on 99 regal GSE
i have been borrowing a 99 regal GSE since my van died... my buddy got a dwi and is not driving currently...
after a cold start, there is absolutely no steering. i dont mean no power steering, i mean NO steering... even putting all my weight into turning the wheel.. nothing...i can hear the PS pump whining like a sonuvabitch though...
after the car has been running for a while.. depends on how cold it is outside, anywhere from 30 seconds to 20 minutes, the steering comes back, and works perfect the rest of the time...
i have been told by the owner and a shop that its the power steering rack. can anyone explain to me what is actually going on, and maybe come up with an effective solution without replacing it.

I'm experiencing similar issues with gravenge... I have a leak, but she still has plenty on fluid.
I bought a new pump ( I DO NOT have T2V steering) and am hoping that will fix the problem along with new hoses....

i cant really answer that question, as it is not my car... for all i know, its full of motor oil.. but i would like to assume that the owner is smarter than that...
how could i even check, without draining it and starting over?
