Default Major malfunction on the highway today.

Ok, my girlfriend and I were heading south on 35W today between Owatonna and Albert Lea in her mom'* 98 Buick Regal GS with the cruise set at 70 when all of the sudden the engine started to surge and the car began to buck real hard with each surge (No indications by either the gauges or idiot lights that somehting is awry). I put in neutral and try to get it to the shoulder when the engine just all out dies. I manage to get onto the shoulder.
I try to restart it, it starts, idles real rough and dies like its flooding out, I hold it to the floor and start again, it starts and revs up real smooth but does not respond to anything below full throttle.

Its a 1998 Buick Regal GS (supercharged) with about 129,000 on the Odometer.

What jkind of problem am I dealing with?

All help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Start by checking your fuel pressure, and see what that is doing.
