1987 Skylark, with engine problems.
Hi Guys, a BIG hello from Norway.
About 3 months ago, a buddy of mine called me on the phone, and asked, if I would be interested in his 87 Skylark! I said yes, but told him, since I am currently unemployed, it would have to wait until I could afford it!
2 Months ago, he called me again, and said "It'* on its way, it'* yours!"
And an hour later another buddy delivered it in my driveway.
A nice red 1987 Buick Skylark limited 3.0 V6.
4 drs, and red interior. 94k on the odometer (verified) and wery little rust.
digital cluster, (and it works perfectly) floorshifter, and electric driverseat.
ohh, and sunroof!
Here come'* the reason why it was free.
It won't run.
It starts fine, but runs for only a few seconds, then it dies.
If I pump the throttle, I can keep it running for a short while, but it always dies.
Plugs are fine, new fuelregulator, new coilpack, IAC, and Knocksensor
The fuelpump delivers, but I need a pressure tester.
I need to locate the problem, before I start buying more parts for it.
As I said, I'm unemployed, and parts are crazy expensive i Norway
Normally you can tripple the us-price, due to shipping and taxes.
I got a lot of spareparts for the car, like plugs, complete wiringloom for the engine, brakes, doors, extra rims, a few sensors, 2 ICM, 5 ECM and a hole sh.tload of other parts.
Can anyone in here help me?
Ian

I would normally start with the fuel pressure regulator, but you said you installed a new one. Have you changed the fuel filter? If not, that would be first on my list. After that, you definitely need to know what the fuel pressures are.
When it dies, will it start right up again? If not, see if you can determine if the plugs are getting spark or not.
I am not familiar enough with the 87 Skylark to know if this could be a VATS problem or not. Perhasps someone else on the Forum could chime in on that one.

the fuel in it been sitting a while? i think it would be rare to even have vats on that, and thats not what the early ones do anyway. you have a pellet in your key?

I dumped the fuel, as the car has been sitting for 3 years, and filledthe tank, with 3 gallons of 98 octane, and a can of injector cleaner!
VATS? whats that?
I'm sorry, if I sound a bit stupid, but all other cars I've had are pre 1980.
This is because of tax relief due to the cars age, (anything older than 30 years is considered a veteran, and cost one third to own. full insurance and roadtax on my 1937 master is less than 450$ pr year!)
The buick will cost me closer to 2500$ pr year, but the wife likes it!
