Default How to make my Lucerne faster?

I recently bought a 2007 Lucerne and I’m new to the forums. Just wondering if I could get some help on how to make my car accelerate faster, some basic performance mods, or something like that. I’m only 19 so the budget won’t be too high, it’* a 3.8L also. Thanks for the time and let me know

There are a few things you can do with a 3800, however, since you're on a budget I wouldn't put too much into it. The Lucerne is a good car until one or more of several non-drivetrain electronic gremlins pop up and make owners crazy and/or cost a lot of time and/or money to diagnose. You might be better off keeping it fairly normal and reliable then trade up when you can. The platform is Cadillac at heart.

To answer your question for real: Don't worry about upgrading the exhaust until you've added at least 100HP. Check out these guys for some performance ideas . . . and an idea of the pricing you are talking about: https://zzperformance.com/collections/3800

Thanks you, it’* hard to find information on these cars because so few people actually modify them. I’ll keep searching and tinkering with the car, maybe I’ll figure out how to make it a bit faster. I just find the acceleration quite slow for a v6. I drove a minivan for a while and it had more pickup than the Buick

Your software could be limited by torque management causing the sluggish take off'*. These V6'* are no slouch'*.

Upgrades on a budget? I'll summarize...
A basic 5 extra HP-K&N air filter about $50.
Anything beyond that, we are talking some serious ponies....

-High flow cat
-Bigger exhaust
-Front exhaust manifold
-Cam
-Supercharger/Turbo
-Tuning
And that list is actually in order of which you upgrade. Your engine can't breath if its restricted by the exhaust. Once you open the exhaust up, then you can make the engine breath more with a bigger cam, boost etc.

The reason I say trade it is not to be rude but it'* not at all economical to do and on a limited budget especially. The dollars per added HP is a bad ratio.

ill definitely do the air intake and I’ll do some more research into the software limiting the torque.

see I do like the Buick’*, the problem with the other cars I like is that I cannot afford the insurance. Plus the cars I want are 25+ years old and I’m gonna need some classic car insurance at that point. Which they don’t usually give to someone under 25. This Buick is all what I have right now so I’ll some small basic things for now and maybe some crazy big things later lol we’ll see what happens

It'* $400 for HPTuners, but this programmer isn't for beginners. You should probably just wait until you get your hands on something more 'modifiable'.

Depending on mileage you might just need to do some maintenance like spark plugs and wires to get a little pep out of it. Also, remember that it is a Buick, they are usually geared taller and not for quick takeoffs. I think yours has a 2.86:1 final drive which does not lend itself to quick starts no matter what you upgrade. I bet wide-open throttle shifts from first to second at like 45+MPH .

While we're here, what altitude do you live at?
