Hi, I have a family member that lives in NC that is going to give me a car, but I am concerned it won't pass the emissions inspection here in CA. It is a 1999 Buick Park Avenue with the supercharger.

The sticker itself doesn't say anything about CA, 49 or 50 states, so I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I've tried to read up on it on here and elsewhere online, but it still seems vague. Any clear information or suggested next steps would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think the answer is a "maybe." The link says that you can't register a new vehicle that doesn't meet CA emissions. And then they define new as, "with less than 7,500 miles." So as I read it, they don't mean "new to you," they mean just plain old "new."

I'd suggest calling the DMV at the number listed in Mike'* link and explaining the situation to them for a definitive answer.

I think to know for sure, check your SPID label to see if you have California emissions....you can go to any GM Dealership, and they can print out the "Vehicle Build" spid label, which tells you what each code means...

If I read Mike'* link right, they say nothing about "used cars" with high mileage.......
