Help! Can't figure out high idle.
Yes, I will as soon as I am able to get it started. It will crank but not start. I get a strong smell of gas when cranking. I was wondering. If I do have a vacuum leak, is the computer sending too much fuel because of the increased air being sucked in?
But if you got strong gas smell, hold the pedal to the floor and crank. that disables the injectors and allows you to clear any flooding. Also, if you want, pull a plug and see if its wet with gas.
Today I pulled the plenum off, found a cracked injector, replaced the injector, put the plenum back on and torqued it back down, changed the coolant and the oil.
The car fired right up, so maybe the hard to start issue is fixed? Me and the boy took it for a drive. It wanted to idle at 1000-1200. After 3 or for miles of putting around about 40 mph, we pulled out on the highway and the car fell on its face. Ran terrible, like it was running on 3 cylinders. Went a mile before I could pull off on a side road and it took off a little better but we could hear a loud hiss coming from what sounded like maybe under or behind the motor. Went another mile and I could get the car up around 40 but it had no guts. Got it home and couldn't find anything that looked wrong under the hood. Idled at 1000-1200 sometimes climbing higher. Id shut it off, start it and it would start back at 1000 then climb. You can hear the hiss while it idles but I can't pinpoint it.
I got a P1406 egr valve pintle position circuit and a
P0301 misfire.

the vacuum leak could be the misfire cause but thats not a guarantee. I would say that checking the spark plug wire and plug for cylinder 1 is a great start. but I would like to know if the misfire graph shows more than just one cylinder misfiring. OP, you need a scan tool with the functionality but a better tool/app can show you a misfire chart. That includes misfires that arent to the threshold for setting a code. 2 cylinders on different coils, for example, usually helps eliminate a coil problem because both cylinders on a coil should have the same problem
