Hey everyone, there does not seem to be much support for this particular body style of Buick so I thought I would join this forum.

I just purchased a 1990 Buick Park Avenue 'Ultra'- it seems to be a well equipped model as it has the astroroof, Bose Stereo system and security system.

my long term plans is to make a nice driver. Unfortunately it is a tad bit more rusty then I expected, but for an Ontario car you can't expect perfection. I have listed the various problems that need to be addressed below.

1. The dreaded ABS light is on- I am a virgin to the 'Teves' braking system, I hear repairing can cost thousands.... pic below of master cylinder currently

2. the sunshade had apparently been taken off the car or has disappeared into the roof..... ya kinda of weird

3. headliner is failing

4. seat controller (in the middle) is dis coloured and the buttons dont all work correctly. the steering wheel is also discoloured.

5. gas tank is leaking.

6. rocker panels are a bit rusty

7. clear coat failing

Good news

1. leather interior and rugs are in good shape, especially the rear seats

2. drove it 200 km and it performed fine

3. digital dash works amazingly well.

let me know what you guys think, I am super excited about finding this car but I know that it really isn't worth that much....if it turns out to be a rust bucket should I just not bother?- its saftied/certified now so even if it is rusty I will drive it to the ground.

Welcome to the forum! Looks like it'll be a great project! What part of Ontario are you from?

Overall Colin the PA looks good. oh &.....Welcome to GMForum!
Nothing but a little TLC & /JY parts and some wrenching..& U will be good to go!
Have you considered a steering wheel cover for starters?

Welcome! I would like to see pics of the digital dash. I wonder if the seat controls were exposed to the elements. With ABS, you will want to check codes to see why the light is on.

rjolly87- the seat controls were exposed to Tobacco tar.....you see those little cup holders- former owner had the bright idea to use them as an ashtray.- not sure what to do about the controls restoration wise.

2k2cse- I am located near London/Woodstock....brr...

soft ride- I always find steering wheel covers tacky- the leather seats need some attention so I am going to call up the mobile leather repair/staining guys to see what they can do for the seats + wheel ....if the steering wheel starts to go bad again then I will consider a cover.

its been bitterly cold outside so I can't do much of anything, I might starting soaking some of those rusted bolts/screws in WD-40 to loosen them up and put new ones in. The interior will have to wait to April at least.

Welcome to the forum! Nice looking P/A! The headliners in those late-model GM's always fall....they're known for that. What the heck is that seat thingy in the center of the seats? I've never seen anything like that before...

1redcav- my headliner is not that bad yet, its falling down a bit at the back- I hear 3M headliner glue is what works best?

that seat 'thingy' :)- is part of the 20 way seat control that was exclusive to the 1989-1990 'Ultra'. My Buick came with the regular 6 way power seats on the armrests- the centre control controlled the 14 other directions.- it also apparently lights up in the dark which is pretty neat.

I will look up in the forum about headliner repair and post some before/after pics
