hard starting

the engine tries to start but wont. after cranking for several minutes the engine starts and runs fine. the crank sensor was replaced about 3 months ago.when trying to start you can hear misfire at air cleaner.i replaced the fuel regulator but that did not work .does anyone have an idear what can be wrong.

Check your fuel pressure. Also, leave fuel pressure gauge on with key off, does the pressure hold or does it drop off?

patg 11-18-2010 04:07 PM

i did not check fuel pressure. i did turn key on and off several times and had fuel pressure at the valve on the rack.

Danthurs 11-18-2010 04:17 PM

20 psi is not the same at 48psi. One the car will run, the other, not so much. Because you said the car was trying to start, this tells me fuel.

what should the fuel pressure be at idle.if the pressure is good what do you think i should check next.thanks for your help dan.

Danthurs 11-18-2010 04:32 PM

Should be around 45 or so. Shut the engine off and watch the pressure for about 10 mins. does it drop off?

patg 11-18-2010 04:44 PM

thanks i have to check that and get back to you.

patg 11-18-2010 05:55 PM

the fuel pressure was at 38 . i shut the motor off and checked the pressure about 15 minutes later and the pressure held at 38.

Danthurs 11-18-2010 05:57 PM

Unhook the FPR, what does the pressure do? This is with the engine running.

Danthurs 11-18-2010 05:57 PM

Also, try cleaning the MAF
