gas cap
2002 buick lesabre limited 110,000 miles, instrument panel says gas cap loose, bought a new gas cap since I figured the original was 20 years old but the new gas cap did not fix the problem, any ideas??
thank you, I appreciate the help I find on GM forum, and I also use youtube to gather as much info that I can and other sources in trying to get the problems solved, it is a process of elimination in getting it nailed down to exactly what the problem is and a solution, the purge valve by the front valve cover is a start, the 2002 buick i have only has 110,000 miles on it, other suggestions are the lines, the canister etc in other words great green gobs of sour owl manure!
The PCM puts the system under a vacuum and any of the plumbing could have a leak from cracked line, not many of these, a bad fitting on the line, more likely, or maybe the canister is cracked, more of these than the others.
Proper testing is to put smoke in under pressure and look for a chimney blowing smoke and you found the leak.

what do you mean "other issues" you didnt say any other issues were present on your lesabre. your 2002 lesabre has a gas cap warning that comes and goes, we know that, what else is your car saying
Engine light should be on a certain amount of the gas cap warning, please tell us the code. Even if it never lit or went out, there is likely a code stored. The BCM is unlikely related to your gas cap. the car has a PCM which monitors the EVAP system and either that or the DIM(dash integration module) likely control the tell-tale, but that would need to be checked in service data, I am going off memory and making a guess at that last part. The computers are most likely fine, assuming you have told us everything. The system, EVAP, isnt uncommon to get a small leak code and have it go away. my park avenue has that and its fine about 360 days of the year, with the failure spread out pretty evenly except for a small uptick in frequency when cold, but thats like 1 more time in 2 months than the middle of summer 2 months, not a lot.
