Default Climate Control on 01 Regal LS

I have a 01 Regal LS with dual climate control, nothing fancy, just the push buttons, rotary switches and sliders. a couple of weeks ago everything completely quit. it will work once in a while, but usually not. the electrical side acts like it has no power. I can hear the vacuum operated vents move when i switch from defrost to vents, but no fan, rear defroster or A/C, like the main power to them is gone, fuses are good, as I said before, it will work some times, like dirty contacts in a relay. is there a relay for the climate control system? and if so where. when it was working intermittently I switched the fan on and off and heard some clicking under the dash, when it'* not working I hear nothing when i switch it on and off. I have used the Haynes service manual to try and track it down, but the manual covers so many different other cars and years it does not specify the relay or locations. I have plenty of mechanical experience, but it is mainly in the marine industry and not electrical automotive. Please help, not defrosting in the morning is troublesome to say the least.

Thanks

I don't have Fsm'* with me at the moment, but that sounds like either a relay or the igntion switch. The switch is pretty common and would feed all the items you are mentioning.

I had ruled out the switch at first, I had 12 Volts at the HVAC Fuse box in run position, checked all my relays (all good), used a multimeter and checked all connections, had power there also, finally I gave up and replaced the ignition switch, BINGO every thing works fine now.

Glad to hear it. Those things are odd for sure.

BTW, how'd you get those little screws out?

I googled replacing the ignition switch and found this forum post, it has a great step by step instruction, I would have broke something for sure with out it. but luckily I was prepared for those little screws.
