Changing Heater Core/Hoses 98 Buick LeSabre
Hello the forum.
I have to change out the heater core and hoses on my 98 Buick LeSabre. While I wait for the new core and hoses to arrive, I started on the disassemble. I am at the point where I need to remove the hoses from the nipples on the heater core; I am replacing the hoses with new ones as well. I am looking for advice on how to get in and remove the hoses that are up against the firewall and strut tower; not a lot of room there. Searching the net doesn't reveal a lot of tips on getting the hoses off. Should I keep the spring clamps or replace them with a screw band clamp?

So are you saying after I manage to get in and remove the clamps; which looks to be a bear, cut the hose off. Yes. I thought that maybe the hose might fit through the firewall but I am not sure. I just thought maybe someone that had done the job on the car or similar car might have some idea on how to get to the clamps on the hoses.

I know what you mean. It'* just about impossible to get to the hose clamps with traditional tools. You need one of these:
I did hoses on my `97 LeSabre several years ago. Reused the same clamps. No issues and bonus: I didn't have to try to get screw clamps tightened in those weird locations.
Then, after you get the clamps out (by sliding down the hose towards the front of the car), yes slit the hoses to get them off of the nipples.

I have spent considerable time trying to remove the clamp on the top hose; even using the special pliers. I think the suggestion of cutting the clamp off is what I am going to attempt.

I have a dremel like tool but don't have any sort of cut-off wheel for it; I will need to head out and see what I can pick up. I ended up putting the coolant back in the car and then waiting to bleed the air out etc. Wasted day.
