Maybe the pump failed causing the belt to snap.

I'm with Rusty on this one. You didn't do anything to introduce air, therefor there is no air to bleed. Air in a ps system makes the pump whine and be very loud.

I'd say you have a different issue that likely led or was caused by the belt.

I'm back after a long away time and wanted to finish this post. Thanks for all the help, it was your help that made me keep looking at what was happening and abandon my idea of air in the system. I was making a mistake. When the belt broke it must have remained intact long enough to spin around and cut a notch in the side of the reservoir of the power steering unit. I assume it drained the fluid out fast and that is why it wouldn't work. I cleaned it and patched the notch with plastic welder epoxy and filled it up it works to this day. Thanks for the help
