Are you sure all lifters are starving? One bearing will starve about a section. But can also blow all oil pressure. The oil will go to the path of least resistance.

It sure sounds like all of them are slapping. Also in the video I posted, it shows the sounds and also the last 20 seconds of the 1 minute video shows the oil pressure gauge after it has newer oil in it and its dropping and raising like crazy. It does not stay at one spot at all. It drops 10 psi and jumps up just idling. I wouldn't think it would do that with a bad cam bearing. Also he was driving it all day and it was fine, than when he started it, it sounded like this...... Only has 70k on the whole car which is wild to me to have an issue like this arising...

I can only see what under the oil cap which is like two valves pretty much. But it doesn't point to just one part of the motor. Sounds like the whole deal. Im just blown away it would happen like this

It could be a failing oil pump. Lets see what Bill has to say on that. A bad cam bearing woudl slowly drop oil pressure and then loose it all together when up to heat. And you would hear a groan from the top end. A bad rod bearing might give a bit of a knock, and could explain the jumping oil pressure. Hover, if it'* a bad pump I believe I have 3 of them on the shelf. I can sell you the whole timing cover with pump at a fair price. Just swap them out. If it'* a bearing, then it'* time to look for a new engine or a new short block and transfer parts. But lost oil pressure is only a few things, bad pump, clogged filter, stuck relief valve, and bad bearings. Because you have noise the loss is real and not a bad sender unit.

Yeah thats what is weird. The darn thing jumps all over no matter if its dead cold or warmed up, pressure is all over the place. Thats why I decided to take a video of it. I guess I will take a look at the pressure relief valve thats on the adapter first and look it over to make sure as if its stuck than it should be an easy fix. But if it did stick. Can I buy a new one at a regular auto store as I'm sure they were not meant to get stuck or something? Or should I just dislodge it and put it back together if it looks good with a new gasket?

Just clean it up, might be some sludge causing it to stick or move slow. Just pull the plunger and spring, clean up good, oil it and put it back. If that don't fix it then it'* deeper in the engine.

I'm as stumped as you guys. The oil pump is driven around the crank and one of the reasons our engines last forever is how good these pumps are. Yeah they can go bad and it'* very uncommon, but this one is odd. I'm guessing at the sticking valve, gasket is a couple of bucks, so it'* a pain to get at..but overall a cheap thing to check.

Ya, I've been rattling this around my head all day. The only thing I can think of that will cause pressure to go up and down is the pressure relief valve sticking and moving slowly. A bad bearing will see a slow drop to near zero. The oil pump is a simple unit of 2 off set gears.

Im going to be checking it out either tonight after work or first thing in the am tomorrow. So I will keep you posted. I did get the gasket which the auto parts store didn't even know existed, he had trouble finding it till I gave him the gasket number and he was the manager. Gotta love it. It cost me a whole 1.49 for the gasket
