so,noticed a small oil leak about a week ago,couldnt find time to take care of it at the time and it steadily got worse got under the car to check it out,oil everywhere main source was the oil pressure switch from what i could see.next day on my way to grab the part,the car starts stumbling when i had to slow down but as i applied throttle evened out,a block later the needle is bouncing off of the red and it dies completely.long story short i changed the oil switch,put 3 quarts of oil in(all the old oil dumped out of the switch)and it will attemt to start,turns over,tries to catch and falls on its face...making an almost- coughing sound as it dies...what am i missing?disconnected the battery thinking maybe the computer is still getting a low pressure warning and stuck in some type of safe mode?any insight is much appreciated,my mother and brother live with me and we all share my car for now,everyone has to work monday morning.needless to say this is an emergency

Does the fuel pump activate when you turn the ignition on and before you crank the engine over?

Honestly didnt cross my mind to check because it will catch and try to idle,extremely rough though.found my scanner,its throwing code for camshaft position sensor : timing over retarded.so im gonna see what i can do to remedy that

I wish you the best, but a cam position failure will not a cause a total NO start condition.

Yes it will. If you lose the cam signal while the engine is running it will continue to run but if you stop and try and start with no cam signal it will not start.

If the cam sensor circuit goes bad there is a 50-50 chance of injector sequencing being OK, The cam sensor is just for determining if crank is on first 360 deg of a cycle or second 360 (ignoring V VT for now...). With an intermittent it might be very difficult to catch the problem trying to test the sensor, it might be more practical to throw a new sensor at it. If that doesn't work, then go through the tedium of checking all connectors and wiring. If injector sequencing is off, engine operation isn't noticeably different with a "grocery getter" engine.

It either will work or it won't. It doesn't decide to work this time and not the next time.
