Hello everyone. I was tracking down a hissing noise from my car, and I mistakenly thought it was just my lower radiator hose. I had green on the plastic under engine cover, and whenever I grasped and wiggled the hose, the noise would change.

So I replaced the $28(!!!) hose and I noticed that my A/C didn't work after I was done the job. My compressor wouldn't even turn on. I thought that it had something to do with my fan relays as I jumped the relay to power the high speed fans with the car off to cool the car off so I could drain the antifreeze. Well, after hooking up my scanner, the PCM disabled the A/C clutch because of a low pressure situation.

I charged the system, and engaged the compressor, and noticed my high pressure was only about ~90PSI, while the low was near 40.

It turns out that the green fluid was from a UV dye I added quite a while ago in case I ever got an AC leak. The problem was the rubber suction/discharge hose(which connects to the compressor) was rubbing against a plastic bracket which held one of the oil cooler lines to the sub-frame. I'd advise any of your with H-body cars (LeSabre, Bonneville, Olds 8 to check to see that your hoses aren't rubbing.

Haha! I figured out very quickly why my A/C wasn't working after seeing THAT! I bought the OEM Delco suction/discharge hose today for $60, and stopped by Harbor Freight to pick up an A/C manifold gauge set along with a Venturi-style vacuum pump.

I purchased the same pump last year, used it once, and then gave it to my old high school'* auto shop. (I'm good friends with the teacher and stop by to use their lift and tools a few times a year). Well, of course, it happens to be summertime when the school is closed so I can't get the pump.

Using their Craftsman Professional 80 gallon air compressor, I was pulling more vacuum than their AC Manifold gauge set could register. They are great little devices, and at $15, it sure beats $149 electric vacuum pumps for my purposes.

Hopefully after a nice, long evacuation, and fresh recharge I'll get colder air than I was the past. On a 75 degree day, the air was ice cold, but as soon as the temp would hit 80 and up, or the humidity was up there, it just wasn't good enough. My feet and face would be OK, but my back would be sweaty... Not good.
