93 Riviera Engine Swap
The car used to belong to my dad but he can't work on it and I'm using it as an excuse to get into cars, so bear with me if I'm not an expert on everything. I've begun doing research on the car a while ago and by now I know that adding power to the stock L27 just isn't going to happen even with enough money the rods and pistons just cant handle it. I've seen a few suggestions on drivetrain swaps but I have no idea where to start with that, so my main question is what could I put in there? I don't want some crazy thing to do 400 HP but I think that 250 is a decent goal and isn't that far away from the stock 170ish. I figured if anything I could take a SC L67 but I don't know how well it would fit and how much I'd have to move around. Any input at all is appreciated, even telling me I'm crazy and to just get a new car haha.
L67 swap will require the PCM, harness and the HD trans that is normally mated to it.
Now, the other bad part... your current chassis is a OBD1 platform. The L67 Series 2 came out in 1996, which means the PCM and software that runs it is OBD2. I don't know if a OBD2 computer will work in a OBD1 system like cruise, tach, speed etc.
Others have come here asking the same thing and if I remember, most of the time we recommend staying with a 96 or newer chassis when it comes to swaps.

Your `93 and a `96+ share bone structure, so it'* not too big of a deal to get a more powerful drivetrain bolted in there and started. The hard part is that people see as the other 5% . . . that turns into the other 105% a lot of the time. Do you have the right wiring coming from the ignition switch? Do the gauges work? Do the accessories work? Does the cruise control work?
Also: Do you have to pass any emissions tests? . . . or safety inspections? . . . or do you have any other rules in your area that would affect this vehicle after you've completed this swap?
Supposing that all of these questions are answered already then I suspect it would take an experienced person with all of the right tools a couple of weeks to get this done.
