Default '93 Park Ave. won't start????

My dad took his '93 Park Ave. up the street last night to grab a burger. When he got back into the car to return home the car would not start. Went this AM to check it out....turned the key and ablsolutely nothing happened. Tried to jump it, as I thought it might be a dead battery here in the cold....nothing. You turn the key, and it'* as if the battery is not even connected. All the lights are on, headlights are strong etc.... Battery checked out fine, Alt. was replaced less than a year ago. Took starter off....checked that it ran fine and had a strong AMP reading. Put my AutoXray on it and it showed no codes at all.....the transmission selections showed fine as I thought it might be a stuck
P/ N Switch. What coud've happened in the time it took dad to drive to the burger shop, get his burger, go to the car and BAM....nothing. I'm befuddled.....the only other thing I'm wondering is IF it could be a bad ignition switch on the column?

Normally the light comes on for 3 or 4 seconds. If the Pass key module can't read the resistance of the key pellet then the starter won't work. Try cleaning the key or try another key. Also check all the fuses & battery connections.

The problem could be any of these things.

Weak battery
Bad battery cable/connection
Blown fuse
Ignition switch
Ignition lock cylinder
Vats Module
Starter interrupt relay
Park neutral switch
Starter & or solenoid

You've already ruled out some of these things - now let'* check what the security light is doing.

Tried another key, no luck. Checked battery...fine....check starter....fine. I guess we'll look toward ignition switch now.

You can try removing the starter interrupt relay & installing a jumper wire where terminals #1 & #4 plug in. If it starts then the relay is bad. If the starter works but the engine doesn't start we'll have it narrowed down to the anti-theft system.

Where is the relay? Which one is it? Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure but that relay may be buried deep inside the dash. Let'* try something easier.

1st we need to know how long the security light is staying on when the key is in the run position.

I won't have a chance to get to it until tomorrow morning. I'll let you know. Is the relay not on the firewall? I know the VAT is a small black box above the heater ducts damper opening. I'd hate to have to try to get into there.

Broke down because of time constrants this week and took it to the only mechanic I'll let touch it. As I fiqured, it was the ignition switch....should be fixed by Tuesday.
