2007 Lucerne Oil Plug bolt won't come out
My mom has a 2007 Lucerne..... I could not get oil pan bolt out to change oil...... the bolt is very close to the transmission pan so I could not get the sockets that I normally use on tight/stripped bolt....... we even took the vehicle to an "oil change" place to see if they could get the bolt to come off and they couldn't........ any suggestions (short of having to replace the oil pan?).........
The oil plug should have plenty of bolt head to get a good socket or a big combination wrench on it. If it'* so tight that even this isn't enough, you'll probably have to replace the oil pan.
A few questions:
- What engine does it have?
- How long has your mom owned this car?
- Who did the last oil change on it?
- Is there any damage surrounding the drain plug that could explain this?
It sounds like it'* on so tight that the threads are likely ruined in the pan regardless, you might be best off changing the pan.
Can you post picture of it and the surrounding area?

Mom has owned this vehicle about a year. I changed the oil the last time it was changed back in the spring and I had to suck the oil from the dip stick tube as I didn't have time then to remove the pan. In about 2 weeks I'll removed the pan and I'll have more access to the plug.....if I still can't get it I'll have to replace the pan....... there is no room for a socket and I was not able to remove the plug with a box wrench....so pulling the pan I'll have more access to pull the plug.... IF I get the plug off (I'd rather than having to replace the pan), of course I will replace plug!
. . . and . . .
. . . ?
I'm thinking it is a Northstar on a 4T80E, and those can have a some clearance issues underneath.
I've heard of folks that strip the plug and/or pan then using epoxy to put it back together then send it on its way.
