Default 06 Lucerne Magnetic Ride shock replacement

Hi All

I am not only new to this forum but also new to the US. I am here with my company for three years and need to figure out some things regarding my car.

I bought a 2006 Buick Lucerne CXS V8, old lady kept and in great shape with 80k miles.

After a while I realized that the front was kind of bumpy and had it checked by a shop that was recommended to me by someone I trust.

Just then I learned that the Lucerne I own has the 'magnetic ride system', which is nice if it'* ok. In my case all 4 shocks are leaking which explains why I felt the front bumpy. The rear seems better and the air compressor works fine but I sure will need to have that worked out soon. Back in the shop I was told that ONE front strut is $ 900 and the rear shocks are pretty expensive as well. They offered me to replace the OEM parts with regular shocks in order to save me a lot of money.

Since then I've read a lot about all kinds of struts / shocks but it seems to be a struggle to find a setup close to the original. I'd prefer to maintain the smooth ride the Lucerne originally offers but $ 3.000 and up for the replacement is just out of my budget.

Also I couldn't figure out if there'* only one setup with the MRC- system or if the different suspension options (FE1, FE2, FE3 eg) refer to MRC as well. In addition I can't find the RPO- codes for my car. I was told it is in the trunk on the spare wheel cover, but it is not.

Can you help me out?
  • Is there a place where I can get OEM shocks and struts cheaper?
  • Can I get aftermarket shocks and struts in the same quality and will they be comparable to the original ones? Like the ones listed below:
Arnott New Front Shock - 06-11 Buick Lucerne / 06-11 Cadillac DTS - Arnott® Air Suspension
Arnott New Rear Air Shock - 06-11 Buick Lucerne / 06-11 Cadillac DTS - Arnott® Air Suspension

I also saw some AC Delco'* for about half the price of the original ones but am totally unsure of what and where to get...

Thanks for your help in advance. As soon as I have decided on what I will go with I'll let you know!

In the meantime I found the RPO codes and found out that I have the FE3 (Sport) suspension and the F55 (MRC) option which makes it the most expensive possible repair

Can anybody tell me how the Arnott'* do in comparison to OE?

Can anybody give me the right part numbers for OE replacement and where I can get them for a good price?

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

With a set of Arnotts costing 800 bucks for all 4 how much do you want to spend 2000 for all 4 of the OEM ones?
Any thing but the OEM ones or a set of the Arnotts you will have the service suspension light on.
That'* OEM as in what'* on there now not OEM plane struts.

Thanks Regal Guy

After some other issues I decided to trade it in to not have the risk of costly repairs in the next three years.

Best of luck to you and a safe ride,

valium97!
