Default '05 PAU ghost temp display

My '05 the temp display used to work, then it started working occasionally with a light tap, now it rarely works even with hard taps. The heater and A/C work fine but you can not see the actual temp. Any ideas? Maybe the unit is just shot? Bad ground? Maybe a gremlin lurking in the dash somewhere?

How about the lights in the steering wheel for radio and temp controls? Only one works anymore, I would like to fix them if it is semi easy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

snorkel68,

Has the issue been taken care of or were you planning on taking the vehicle in to be looked at? Please keep us posted.

Thank you,
Caron, GM Customer Service

if it works when you tap it usually just have to resolder the joints of whatever is loose, but since you asked the question im guessing your not that familiar with electronic work so you could try to find another in a yard. i wouldnt even want know what gm want for it. i dont know about your lights you would have to take it apart and see alot of them are leds now

Sounds like something loose under the dash. hard to track down. Start with a wiggle test. Just start wiggling things and if you see a change your in the right area, then narrow it down.

I have not taken it anywhere, nor is it fixed. I am not sure if I should tackle this job or not. Not much intimidates me when it comes to working on my cars.

I noticed yesterday that when I get into the car and have it running on the remote starter that the lights all work. I am thinking a bad ground wire is the culprit. Anyone know where I can get the schematics for a 2005 Park Avenue I would not mind downloading it so I can look at it.

Thanks!! They had exactly what I needed. I figured it was a black wire but was not positive, now I know it is a black/white wire. I will check when I get a chance to climb under the dash.
