Its almost time for a new battery before winter kicks in. The dealer has the Delco 6 yr . They list 100-6 as replacement but don't stock then went on to say they always put in the 79-6. Couldn't tell me much about the difference but 79-6 was cheaper and CCA was 770 on both. They want $152.00 + tax, I'll install. I had not been able to find any other brand that has one, until for kicks I stopped at an Auto Zone. Ther web site said no go but the store shows a Duralast 100-DLG Gold 8 yr for $130.00 before tax, then -$5 on core trade.

I have never bought a "store brand" battery before. I have Optima'* in my motorcycles and love them. Only battery I found with enough grunt to kick over compresion lock. Problem is I can't seem to find one for the GXP.

I've read that Johnson Controlls make both the Optima and Duralast, so...

Do you go with the OEM Delco 100-6, the 79-6 or aDuralast 100-DLG? What has anyone else done?

I'm in Canada and buy my batteries from Canadian Tire, which doesn't help you. I shop for batteries based on the warranty, and I would never buy a battery from the stealership. When I buy a battery, I get one with a lifetime warranty. I don't care if it fails, because I just pull it, take it in and get a new one at no cost.

Check to see if the warranties are full replacement or pro-rated, or if the warranty period has a full replacement period followed by a pro-rated period. On a pro-rated warranty if your battery fails 3 years into a 6 year warranty you pay half the cost for a new one. On a full replacement warranty you get it for free. That'* a big difference.

I would never buy a battery from the stealership. You can get an equivalent battery (cranking amps) with a better warranty for a lot less money elsewhere.

Try Walmart. Seriously.

Luckily I haven't had to buy the Bonneville a battery yet but Yesterday I spent $57 for a 100-3 CCA-640 CA-800 Costco battery. The old battery was a 72-3 Costco battery that was almost 9 years old. I could have milked it for a few more months but it is the Wife'* rig and no need to leave her stranded anywhere.

According to Consumer Reports, The Everstart from Walmart gets the best write-up. Second was the Interstate.

These companies have different style shells they run down their production lines and slap different stickers on them. Then companies like Johnson Controls actually market Interstate batteries.

Being an under the back seat battery, You need to get a direct replacement battery. It doesnt have to be AC Delco but, it has to have the vent holes that will allow you to slip the hoses that vent the poisonous gases that the battery gives off charging. Our battery is a unique dimension, so be weary of auto part store replacements. A lot fit, but dont have the proper venting. Ask yourself is breathing hydrogen sulfide is worth the savings.........

I had a simple solution to this problem.

Optima Redtop battery. No poisinous gasses, only marginally more expensive than a direct OEM replacement/equivalent, and proven to have a much higher life than a standard battery. Its not uncommon for these things to go well over 10 years.

Every battery gives off gases. It'* an unavoidable by-product of the electrolytic process.

Optima redtop batteries aren't normal batteries. They're completely sealed, which makes them perfect for our cars.
