And now the DS foglight is dead.

It never ends, does it? Well, I can live without foglights for awhile...I'll get it fixed later.

Quick update...

Took the car in yesterday (11/10). The dealer troubleshot the foglight issue and decided that it was a bad foglight unit, so they're ordering a brand-new foglight assembly.

After I got the car home, I noticed that my pass. side rearview wasn't "dipping" in reverse...turned out that all power to the pass. side front door was dead. I jiggled the flexible wiring conduit; that restored power to the door for now...trying to figure out how a dealer'* shop, while troubleshooting a foglight problem, managed to mess up the connection to the pass. side front door.

Doesn't make much sense to me...oh well. What am I supposed to know, right?

It'll be about three weeks until I can get into the shop again...then I'll have the foglight issue taken care of.

Then I'll wait for something else to break.

Default Issues, issues, issues, etc.......

Marauder307,
I feel your pain. Since I purchased my '05 GXP in December 2005, I have been back to the dealer 15 times for warranty related issues. Here is the list--

1. Lost both fog lights, then lost them again
2. Two gallons of water was pumped out of my trunk. It appears that my deck lid was never aligned properly at the plant and there were some sealing issues. I had to have my carpet replaced as well as there was water coming into the cabin.
3. Multiple brake issues. GM even popped for for ceramic pads and I still have problems. I still get severe brake grind/squeak at rolling stops.
4. My OnStar system quit on me last week (when I really needed it!). They had to replace the entire OnStar module in the trunk.
5. My intermediate steering shaft was replaced at 5000 miles.
6. I had a bad shim in the steering wheel at 70+ MPH. It turns out that two of the 4 tires had "factory problems" and had to be replaced under warranty.
7. All of my Bonneville and GXP emblems came off after a single car wash and had to be replaced.
8. The drivers side window came off of it'* track and ended up going back into the door.

I believe that there are good days and bad days at assembly plants. My GXP was made on a bad day at the Hamtramck plant. I really like the car, but I have had way too many issues for the kind of mileage I have on it (28,000 miles). GM has been less than helpful..........
Good luck with your issues and keep the posts coming!

Thanks

I’ll chime in here since I got mine back from the dealer a few weeks ago. I purchased it at 7k miles, and just brought it in at 13k miles for:

Steering shaft problem (started at 12k miles)
Trunk would not open remotely (loose connector in trunk)
Fog lamps burned out (of course)
Paint peeling on front bumper.

Everything was fixed except for the paint. They are claiming the bumper is not factory paint, but I bought it from them as GM certified, so they agreed to repaint it.

I did have a problem with the DIC reset function for a few weeks just after purchase, but it’* been working fine ever since. Everything else is great with my GXP, and I love it. I just took it on a 400 mile round trip to Austin, and averaged 24 mpg. Considering the new 10% methanol gas, that’* not bad. I was running between 75 and 85 for most of the trip with light traffic. At the last 80 miles of the return trip, I was at 23.5 mpg. I became obsessed with getting a 24mpg average, so I dropped the speed down to 75, then 70, then even a little slower to get my 24.1mpg average. That is a first for me – slowing down to get better mileage!

X2 Man,.....X2 It is nothing less then mind boogling that a $40,000 car could have such assembly and engineering problems. And I hardly drive this thing. Now nearing 6000 miles, I too have a noise started in the front end and not sure if its the Im. shaft or strut collar bearing on my aftermarket bag struts. As well I have trunk unlocking, seat memory, continual compass resetting, and Onstar phone issues. And the fuel used is stuck at 99.9 gallons. I just dont have time right now to deal with it (Wedding in Dec. and final court appereance in Jan.) and waiting for what develops. It is particularly frustrating for me because I have altered the stock suspension so far Mr Goodwretch is probably gonna tell me "your on your own" With the tremedous amount of cash buying the car and in mods, I cant trade it in but have all but resigned myself to buying another car and keeping the GXP as a Show car only/Sunday driver. I have totally lost respect for GM and the term American Made in Detroit. I was really considering buying an 08 Firebird, but the last thing I want is yet another concept vehicle that finally made it'* way to a production line in a Company where pride in work and dedicated service mean nothing any more. For those who say all Companies have a few bad cars.... save it;.... there are to many of these GXP'* falling apart and the TSB'* just keep racking up. :? I'd take a 20+ grand loss right now and sell it for 30k.
Anybody want a fresh GXP driven by a little ole grampa who never took the car over 55? Thanx for the loose connector tip on the trunk Turbocoupe, I'll check that out, and ya I had paint peeling off my front bumper that had to be sanding and repainted cranberry before the marble job as well as plastic body panels flapping in the breeze even after I let GM take a stab at fixing them.

I too have had many problems with my GXP

-Intermediate Shaft (16 000 km)
-Foglamps that keep burning out
-Trunk Springs shattered
-Gear shift lever button broke and popped out
-Rear Integration Module Replaced (Air compressor would not function)
-Door Relay replaced (interior lights would not come on at night when rear drivers side door was opened)
-Windshield was not installed properly (one side stuck up)
-Passenger door was installed crooked
-Headlights were never aimed properly (They have been aligned properly now)
-Leather on driver side seat cracked near head rest
-Paint on GXP door emblams peeled off (both were replaced)
-HUD Vibrations - Still not corrected

That was my list from before.

I am now at 32 000 km and I too am getting a noise from the front end. I am not sure if it is the intermediate shaft. If I am turning into my driveway off the roadway I can feel something clunk in the steering wheel. My front bumper has been re-painted. (Here I thought I was the only one with that problem).

I did FINALLY get my extended warranty that the regional service manager promised me back in April. I now have the 5 year 120000 km Total Plus extended warranty. But going to the dealership monthly is VERY annoying!

I would suggest going to your dealer, talking to the service manager, sales manager, find out who your regional service manager is and hound them. The regional service manager makes numerous trips to the dealerships in your area. Find out where he/she is going and make a surprise visit.

I was at a party on Saturday night and a bunch of us got talking about vehicles and those of us with GM'* were outraged. A friend who drives an Epica has had nothing but problems. Another friend who bought a 07 Silverado is beginning to have problems. (under 2000 km) The water pump needs to be replaced because it is making an awful squeeling noise. Now they are waiting for a water pump which is going to be some time because there is none in Canada.

What is happening to the general??? I dont think there will be much more confidence even with there new 160 k warranty.

I do not understand why the GXPs are so more susceptible to failures than the SE, SLE and SSEis. 90% of the car is the same except for the drivetrain, there is no logic that there seems to be so much of a higher failure rate for many different parts.

The only thing i can imagine is that we have more people posting about these issues, maybe we have more new owners for GXPs than we had for the other trim levels?????????

Very strange to me...
