Default 'Popular Mechanics' road-tests the GXP vs Chrysler 300C.....

The 9/04 'Popular Mechanics' road tested the GXP and the 300C back-to-back in much the same way as did "Car & Driver" and came up with pretty much the same results. The GXP came up with a 0-60 time of 6.95 secs and a 1/4 mile time of 15.07 secs at 91.93 mph.......and the 300C came up with a 0-60 time of 6.12 secs and a 1/4 mile time of 14.32 secs at 98.14 mph...........however the GXP did slightly better in the 525 foot slolom [45.6mph compared to 45.4mph]and not quite as good as the 300C in the 250 foot lane change[51.5mph compared to 51.1mph].I guess that'* what an extra 75 HP,90 ft/lbs of torque,5-speed auto transmission, and RWD gets for you in the 165 lb heavier Chrysler.Gee I think I'll just take the GXP over the 'Bonnie & Clyde-mobile' 300C,even though it costs $2150(price as tested)more.

I'd personally take the 300c over the GXP if i wanted performance outta it. RWD just can't be beat, neither can the cyl deactivation. Interior is pretty good in the 300, and it'* got good handling. But i'd rather have the Magnum, or future coming charger (same platform but 4 door dodge) over the 300 just because i want a bad *** car.

Ultimate 32,000 bone car? GTO or maybe a CTS on heavy discount?

Honestly, the $43k C6 sounds like the best deal of anything out there right now.

Well if you wanna talk about real cars, then yes. But the LS7 Z06 will be even more nuts.

1. The bonne with no DOD get'* almost as good a mileage as the 300C.
2. RWD does not mean it'* automatically a performance marvel.
3. The 300 might have good handling, but the bonne is better. Much more crisp and connected than that gothic hearse.

thats where i feel that you're wrong... this 300c "hype" could put an end to the gxp line like that... for instance, the 300C to GXP ratio where i live is about 2,000:1 so far... and i have yet to see a gxp at any pontiac dealer...

Its the same here, but thats typical with any Chrysler, flood the market with a novelty car, and let it fade away.

Even the last 300M, we had TONS of em at dealerships, I cant count on my hands the number I see in one week anymore. Each year they come out with something "radical" and then it goes away like all fads.

Besides, Bonneville is a discontinued line, up here anyway, so I can understand why there is a limted amount of Bonnevilles seen. As well the production numbers for the GXP is 2500, where the 300C is like what? 30 000?

In that case I'd rather have the more exclusive GXP then the flash in the pan land tank we call the 300C. But, meh, its all opinion.

Chrysler has totally 'bet the farm' on the RWD 300C for their full-size sedans,....all of the people that drove FWD 300M'*,Dodge Intrepids, and Concourdes[sp]have nothing to draw from Other than the 300C,be it they like the 'new' design.. or not,......and being that they have 3 different packages(the Hemi, the 300M'* V-6,and another low-hp V-6)to pick from,of Course you are going to see Way more 300C'* on the road and on dealer'* lots, than Pontiac Bonnevilles.........

i'm glad that there'* a rwd family sedan out there with a v-8, but i don't trust chrysler products at all anymore...

i just wish that we'd come out with a v-8 rwd 4 door coupe.
oh wait, we've got it, we just don't sell it in the states (yet) (i hope that changes).
