owners of GXPs with sunroofs
I think you hit your real problem on the head
That very well might explain the problem. Many (not all) of these aftermarket shops don't know WTF they are doing as to specifics in a particular car, say a Bonneville. It is quite possible that in their hacking away, they not only screwed up the map light but also the swtich. But that still doesn't explain the "Solaire" badge. Somehting else must have happened to the roof/switch/headliner. Sounds like a bad installation may have caused problems that the aftermarket shop then had to go back and fix.
They may well say this about the switch/sunroof/headliner as well, since since it is obvious that your switch is not OEM. Technically (according to your warranty) anybody messing with these things other than a "certified" "GM" "Goodwitch" "technician" invalidates your warranty.
In the end you may need to replace the aftermarket switch with a stock one yourself since
.
The switch replacement in your car'* report must have been something else since the dealership will always replace with OEM parts (and, yes, I checked you can still get the OEM switch for the sunroof) unless they no longer have the parts (like my radio that they want to have shipped off to be repaired due to one burnt out bulb in the panel; they flat out refused to replace it with a simiilar "Pontiac" radio).
My fear for you is that they are going to take one look at your headliner/sunroof and claim it was aftermarket and then claim you invalidated your warranty. When you talk to them, if you don't know what happened, say "I don't know". Don't conjecture that "I think they did this" since that will give them grounds to refuse warranty. From your posts above it is clear that you really don't know, so you are not trying to defraud them - you just want your ride fixed.
Best of luck.
I think the aftermarket shops actually screwed up the headliner and maplight assembly. But that doesn't explain the sunroof switch question. Or does it??
Soooooo.. the dealer is going to say "we won't fix your headliner or sunroof controls under warranty because someone else took them apart to install this antenna thingy"
In the end you may need to replace the aftermarket switch with a stock one yourself since
The sunroof switch seems to stick and act funny
