IAT sensor integrated in Mass Air Flow Sensor?
Just was looking for the Idle Air Temperature Sensor and could not find it in the air intake anywhere so I checked the Mass Air Flow Sensor and removed it and it looks like the IAT sensor is coming out into the inside of the air intake like the one on my Grand Prix.I also checked the wires and the GXP had 5 wires in the Mass airflow sensor and my Grand Prix has 3 wires. The 3 wires were the same color as the 3 wires on the Grand Prix mass air flow sensor so I checked the color of the other 2 wires which were black and tan just like the 2 wires on the Grand Prix IAT sensor so Im thinking IAT sensor is integrated into the mass airflow sensor on our GXPs.Does anyone know for sure about this?If so I bet these would be very expensive to repalce whereas the Grand Prixs are cheap.I was looking at this because Im thinking of putting a resister in the IAT sensor to give it a readout of 30 degrees outside air temperature feedback to the computor so I get more timing advance which I have done on other cars.

Not sure either. I got a printout sheet from dealer of that section of system when I picked up a TB gasket and It referred to that as only the maf. I wouldnt want timing advanced because of nitrous but may be worthy for non juiced N*.
My only qualms about those older tricks is that the PCM'* have become so complex you might be making it do other things to compensate for what you think is a good improvement.
Also would want highest octane possible if your mod is feasable, Knock sensors might overide your jumping IAT with a resistor.
And ya it would be pricey to replace If ya fubar it. The TB gasket alone was $46 Remember you've stepped into the realm of Caddy part pricing for our drivetrain.
There are wires running through the dual air box and maybe IAT is inside first box??
I'm gonna take it all apart if I ever stop coming up with major mod ideas

I looked in he airbox and didnt see anything there either but I did see where the computor was and I couldent believe how small it was compared to my Grand Prixs. Also That 1 1/2 hose I talked about in an earlier thread with you is an air hose and not the wire for the computor that goes through the airbox.I seen that also. This is located just above the Tranny dipstick and you can pull it off the airbox so you can pull out the dipstick without removing the airbox lid to check your tranny fluid.I tried to trace where the other end comes out and I would have to take off the skirting under the bumper to trace it down so I left it alone. Its a long hose and goes down and to the front of the car and the other end comes in the side of the airbox and has a divider plate in the airbox.Have you modified your airbox yet?

No I havent. I want to get inside that divider plate to see whats up before I figure if something costructive can be done to improve cold air flow.
The 05 has a wiring harness with a lot of wires running into the chamber that divides the box. So when time permits, I'm going to take the whole airbox apart. The cold air tube is sealed from engine bay and i dont want to trade a little extra hot air for all the cold it'* getting. and dont like the idea of a rice pipe (call it what ya want) in a beatifull new well designed engine bay.
Maybe room in front for something extending down towards ground which wouldnt look cheap or draw from the bay. I'm thinking a small rectagular stainless plenum pop riveted to very front off box dowm to height of bottom radiator support. The deep bend involved wouldnt be detrimental because the Cold air pipe would still be intact and providing the flow you had to start.
Improving the "ability" for more flow without TB rebore, PCM reflash, or something like advancing the timing is really just a cosmetic mod, and I'm not into wannabe mods....... just ones which would have a real impact on performance. I'm not looking to shave a tenth or two off an E.T. .... I'm looking for in your face blow the doors off an Avalon mods.LOL

Not sure if it holds true as it does on the 3800 motors but even if you trick the IAT sensor it may not help too much as the PCMs (at least on the 3800 motors) often are smart enough and it does not offer much gain if any at all. This is the reason those $20 "performance" items you see on ebay do not work on bonnevilles

Exactly Hans and the 05 N* Pcm is most sophisticated to that date (per GM literature) It'* dawning on me the PCM has to be changed outright and thats a project and a half. I have been toying with the idea of ripping the engine from PCM control alltogether and wonder just what steps would be necessary. obviously a magneto (available) would be the first step. I have found away around GM owners not able to buy aftremarket PCM'* (reserved for sand buggys and custom ground up hot rod builds) but the $1800 price is stuck in my throat
