Default Interm Steering Shaft Update

Just called my dealer about it, as I've started to feel the problem intermittenly. He was of course very familiar with it, but said he just got a letter last Friday saying that GM is having them go back to lubing the shaft instead of replacing it. He told me they used to do this, but then GM had them change to replacing. That must have gotten too expensive or something, he told me they were trying to get a replacement and it was on national backorder. So anyway, this Sat my GXP will be going in for its first "lube" and we'll see how well and how long that takes care of the problem.

I just got home from the service department. I had taken my car in for the intermediate shaft and a bunch of other problems. The service advisor told me they had a meeting about it yesterday. He said that GM has come up with a new lube that is going to fix the problem permanently. He didnt know if they would have any yet or whether they would just replace the shaft at this point. Hopefully this will be a permanent fix, but i am skeptical.

I am guessing it wont work either. The dealership is arranging a meeting with the regional GM rep and myself about the numeroous problems I am having. I will bring this up and see what he has to say. Probably not much. Once they got the money, I dont think they really care!

Go to the 2000-2005 Forum and read the "sticky" under Intermediate Shaft. It has all the information.
