yep, its dohc with 10.3

in the 2000+ cadillacs and 2001+ aurora'* they revamped the entire engine, one of the things they did was reshape the combustion chamber and change it to 10 : 1 so i can run off of regular

And the felt it necessary to add a 3.5L V6 "ShortStar" option...

I'll take my 10.3:1 compression and fill it with 90+

I believe compression ratio'* are in Techinfo

Jim, your engine was really derived from the Olds Quad4 that AJ Foyt used to break all the records a few years back (Mid 80'*). Think of yours as 2 Quad4'* configured into a V.

The Northstar is slightly different, I belive, but I don't know the history of it'* development.

And in 1987 he claimed the world closed course speed record for Oldsmobile with a lap of 257 mph in the Quad-4 powered Aerotech.
This was the beginning of the birth of the Aurora and the engine itself.

Then he came back and did it again. This article shows the progression from the Quad4 to the Aurora:

I had mentioned something earlier about it not being a full blown NS, but a specific engine built for that car as a derivative of other engines...

That race car is really tho

I'm a huge fan of the Quad4. I've owned a couple. Lots of potential. Turning it into an 8 was the smartest thing Olds did in the last 15 years.

So I suppose the dumbest thing was to discontinue the lineup...

Did they use the Quad for in earlier 90'* Cuttys? I thought I recall seeing some with a Quad4 badge :?

They did, indeed. I had a 1989 Cutlass Calais Quad4 with a 5 speed manual. What a rocket. Great handling, too.

After that, it was a 90 Pontiac Grand Am with the same motor, but an Auto trans. Not as much guts due to the lossy trans, but still fun

Wasnt the ultimate Q4 car the Acheiva SCX ?
Great info Will, thanks. THis Aurora V8 is soooo confusing. First its a destroked northstar based engine. The last week on W-body they said the 3.4 TwinDOHC was based on the Q4. Now this week its the Aurora thats based on the Q4 I mean what are they calling based, because it has a crankshaft and 2overhead cams or does it share parts like pistons and rods. To me thats what based means. If their just saying that because its DOHC then maybe its based on the Fiat 1800 for crying out loud . I'll go read that link now. Thanks again, Im a information junky.
