Default 04 GXP Air box (something missing?)

I was looking under the hood at the Monstrosity of what looked like a dual box airbox and I noticed what looked like a "hose nub" with no hose connected.

Is this supposed to have a hose connected to it?

I looked at my 05. There'* definitely a hose there. basically goes straight down, I suspect to the electric air pump? If so. it'* the filtered air port.

That means you're probably sucking unfiltered air into the engine intake.

Thanks ZeeVert for checking. This is very upsetting. I'm takeing it to the dealer today anyway for a weak motor mount, I'll see if they'll fix it.

You would think the electronics would throw a code or something.....It;* just weird.

I'm dieing to go look at it(2:30am), to see if the other end of the hose is lying in there somewhere.

I couldn't see the hose floating around in there at all. Like it'* totally missing.

I looked at my Dad'* car (2004 Cadillac Deville), Which looks like the exact same engine, everything is in the same place including the battery under the seat...

but to my suprise, No hose nub. Exact same air box, but no hole there at all. Very strange.
Though, he bought his used also and his is a California Emissioned car, which usually
means less HP.

Is there anywhere online that shows a break down of the whole engine compartment? I want to know where this hose is supposed to go.

Meanwhile the dealer is looking at it.......

If you don't get a response by 7 PM Central today, I'll check mine out when I get home and let you know where it goes.

Thanks, I really appreciate that. Still no call from the dealer yet.

On top of that, I think my intermediate shaft is going.

Pontiacs records shown it was in twice for that already.
When turning the wheel this morning I could feel slight knocking. I think I saw on here somewhere that they made an updated part for it? car has only 34,000mi

Ok, got a call from the dealer. They say the "hole" is supposed to be there, that the air is indeed going through the filter and he said it goes through twice, in fact.

But they said it is definately not a straight through passage to the plenum and does pass the filter. I guess I will need to take it apart for myself.

Still strange, becauseZeeVert has a hose.......04 vs 05??

They are putting a new motor mount in, they need to order the part. And as far as the intermediate shaft, they lubed it.........don't know how long that will last.

How many GXP owners do we have here, I'd like as many to chime in as possible to see if anyone else does not have the infamous hose.

The dealer is almost right. The air sucked thru the open nipple will pass thru the filter twice, but that depends on how well a hard plastic edge can seal against the steel mesh on top of the filter. If the hose is connected to a "closed" system, the edge seal doesn't matter. Name: Hose.jpg

I'm thinking it'* not a very good seal. It won't be the end of the world, but I vote to plug the hole.

You got my curiousity picqued Frank and I just went out there and looked. To start with the Caddy engines arent quite the same engine, close but the L37 does have a few differences compared to the LD8 so its not a good place to make comparisions. The '05'* see to all have the hose, it goes to the bottom of the engine and does a 90 degree towards the rear of the engine and its to dark to see where it goes. I did take the top of the airbox off and it does hit the filter , not the plenum so you are not sucking unfiltered air. Hopefully a '04 owner will chime in here. I will look to see where the hose goes tomorrow.

I think my Dads Deville has the LD8 (it'* not a DTS which has L37)
here is a chart--scroll down to the LD8, it lists all cars made with it.Cadillac V8 engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I really appreciate all you guys takeing the time to look. I too am really curious where that
hose ends up, Maybe I'm getting more HP having it the way it is.

Maybe I could hook a hose out to the front grill and have a Cold Air Intake, of sorts!
