What is up with the volume control on 98 SE

What is up with the volume control on my radio. I've never had a car that did this. When I try to adjust the volume it does'nt do want it'* supposed to. Any suggestions on how to fix this.

I doubt it on an SE. Sounds like the variable resister or potentiometer that runs the violume might be wearing/worn out
