Without a doubt, the best looking would be like a deep redish burgandyish color.

Like your car is chamagne colored....the lighting a red wine color...I always thought that would look good, use your imagination

Go here for everything you ever wanted to know about cathodes:

Generally, you can get them in red, white, blue, green, or purple.

You can also get them in lots of colors cheap (about $6.50 for 2) at oznium.com. Even with shipping, they tend to be a lot less than at CompUSA or Best Buy.

I did something like that when using one in my PC and the cathode made a loud pop and sparked at the wires and it shut the computer off instantly but thankfully nothing got damaged.

Actually, my car isn't champagne. It is a deeper gold than the pictures show. The factory refers to it as Gold Fire Mist.
Red is a universally ok color, but silver or white would probably go better.

FYI, if you are thinking about red cold cathodes, note that a lot of people think that the red looks more like pink.

That's exactly what I did for the accent light on my amp in the trunk.

Now after seeing this I'm strongly considering two more for the exact same place you put them, and in the back seats would be awesome as well.
