Well here it is Computer Cold Cathode Tubes Up And Running

I was talking to a friend and he wanted to see pics so there on my site in my signature..

These are your everyday computer cold cathode tubes found at any computer store..

They are cheaper $19 for two, they drain less power, and there about 3x brighter..

Enjoy

Ummmm....ok....THAT IS FRIGGEN AWESOME!

I am definately going to do that.

Couple simple questions.

What gauge wire did you use?

Excuse my wiring diagram nubness, but is it sorta like this?

Cathodes in series, switch anywhere in the circuit, ground somewhere in the fuse box?

actually its easy as cake

buy the lights from compusa or who ever

take them out

cut off computer leads

one goes to ground one goes to hot

hook up a switch

and plug the rest into the transformer that comes with it..

really simple and for under $20 for two lights you cant go wrong.. You might not have all the color options as neon but it is bright trust me hahahaha

im going to add some to the rear maybe wednesday..

ibanezcollector 11-01-2004 09:15 PM

whoops

just use the wire that comes with it.. they draw almost no power.. I have mine spliced into the power wires from my rear seat cigarette lighter..

I think I get it.

I think it will make more sense when I get them...Does the switch come with the kit, or did you get that at radio shack or something?

ibanezcollector 11-01-2004 09:48 PM

the switches I used in my install I got at radio shack there illuminated rocker switches..

Pretty cool!

With cathodes, you have to be real careful to wire the pos on the tube with the car positive. If you connect positive to negative...the cathode's power supply will fry.

You can also get them in lots of colors cheap (about $6.50 for 2) at oznium.com. Even with shipping, they tend to be a lot less than at CompUSA or Best Buy.

Thanks a lot for the info...Definately dont want to do that.

I think I'm gonna have to hit that!!! I wanted neon's, but for the price I figured I could find something to add more power, or make the car run better (with 171K on the car id doesn't hurt to replace something original that's worn).
Definitely looks sweet in your car.
Now, what color would look good in the gold car? Do they make a silverish lighting tube?
