Unlock theftlock on 2001 stock radio
i believe with the Newer Delcos you need the VIN and then you can retreive the code thru the dealer, some have found a phone number that has worked for them
the HU does not connect or have any effect on the DIC

This is taken directly from the sevice manual...
"When installing a radio from another vehicle of the same platform, clear the VIN data using the scantool"
The radio will then log the VIN that is recorded in the DIC as its respective vehicle

I just want to unlock the original from my car.
I've heard stories of older theftlock radios having to be unlocked by a dealer if a cars battery goes dead. I'm going to be replacing my battery in the near future, and don't want to have to deal with a locked radio (if this could even happen)

The new system is completely different than the Theftlock of yesteryear. Your radio never actually locks itself. If your battery dies it will still work. The only function of the lock feature makes it so it cannot be used in another vehicle without being reset by a scantool, it will always work in your vehicle, and you can not "unlock" it because it never really "locks"
the VIN of your vehicle is stored in the radio in a non-sensitive area, presumably in an eeprom chip.
"Each time the ignition cycles from OFF to ON, the radio recieves VIN data over the class 2 communications circuit. If the VIN data stored in the radio memory matches the VIN data recieved over the class 2 communications circuit, the radio operates normally"
