tinting the windows yourself isnt really that easy to do. most likely you will end up with bubbles and crap and yah it isnt that fun. my suggestion just get it professionally done
I suggest you don't go to dark though, because our windows are 80% tint, and you can't see out of them at night, it'* impossible to see where you backing up also
?!?!? are you kidding 80% tint is like nothing. are you sure its 80% and not 30% or 20% or 5% cuz the lower the % the darker it is...yah my suggetion if you are tinting your ride and you wanna tint it dark just get the rear windshield tinted lighter than the others it helps when trying to see at night and you will not really notice the difference from the outside look only when you are inside and driving. i wouldnt tint your front windshield cuz its pretty hard to see out when its dark out (and its also illegal). another suggestion do not get 5% on the front windows if the cops in your neighborhood are really retarded and pull you over for anything. you can get pulled over for having 5% on your front windows. dont go with different shades of tint for the side windows because you will most likely not be happy with the outcome of the look you get. please do not get get half mirror fade unless you have a black or silver or white car...ugh i saw a red with that and it doesnt work at all. they also have color mirror fade it looks pretty good....over all just make sure it matches.

I've seen a few cars with half silver tint and it fades to normal dark tint at the top. It looks really good and might look good if your car is black with a clear coat..

AS FAR A TINT GOES FROM THE AMOUNT OF LIGHT IS LET IN SO THERE IS 50,35,20,18,15,5 DEPENDING ON BRAND

Actually every state has different laws regarding this. In Iowa they couldn't be more than 30% on the front windows (the % refers to the light transmittance, btw). As for professional vs. doing it yourself- i was surprised how cheap it was to have it professionally done, and i'm very glad i didn't mess with it myself. My only complaint is that they said with the curve of the rear windows the place said they couldn't do it in one sheet- so there is a very thin line between the two sheets. I don't know why they couldn't do it though, since the car had tint in it when i got it (i had to pull it out, long story) and the rear had ONE PIECE at that time!

Anyhow, i've seen somewhere else on this forum where people with dark rear tint have replaced the backup light bulbs with brighter bulbs.

Great link, Ariel. Awesome collection of info.

FYI, I went with a mild 30% tint, and realized I'd better not black out my reverse lights when I did my tails. Ialso had to go to Halogen reverse lamps to even see what was behind me.

pulled over for 5% on fronts??? man, i wish... we cant even tint our windows with ANYTHING in the front here... or its a big ticket... Michigan State law... and the cops suck too... so tip.. if your in michigan... roll down your front widows, which you will then freeze becuase the weather sux here, from october til april... or you can be like me, and go get a doctors note allowing tints... but i have yet to tint my car.... its not that expensive getting it done, so dont do it yourself... it wont turn out like you want it, trust me... been there done that

yes, michigan sucks... we are only allowed to put a 4" strip of tint along the top of the window on the fronts... and it looks rediculous

Ohio has a 50% rule, do you think that I could get away with maybe 35 or 40%. I know a girl who goes to my school that has 35% on her jetta and has never gotten pulled over, but then again with my luck I would get pulled over on the way back from the tint shop...
