i just bought a sub and amp off a friend the sub is a 1000 watt pioneer and i have it hooked up to a 760 watt 2 channel amp how much power is my sub getting? do i need a new amp for more power?

Your sub is probably not designed for 1000 watts of continuous power. You need to look for the R.M.*. power rating on the sub ( probably 500 watts ) If your amp is bridgeable it supplies enough power for its continueous needs, but anytime you have the gain turned up on a amp the T.H.D. (total harmonic distortion) is higher than at r.m.*. levels. With higher distortion your amp will run hotter and so will the voice coil on your sub. My personal opinion is to always have more power than you need so that your amp doesn't have to work hard to power the sub and has the ability to reach the subs limits.

Make sure when you shop for your amp and speakers, that they match eachother as far as Ohm load and power handling. Also when adjusting the gain levels you want to make sure that the amp gain is turned all the way down then go to your stereo and turn the volume up about 3/4 of the way, then go back to the amp and turn your gain up until you hear a little bit of distortion, then back it down a lil and your good to go. Voice coils dont like distortion. If you run them that way for a period of time, you risk damaging the speaker and blowing them up. 6x9'* included.

What model sub do you have? I know Pioneer, but what size and model number?

aight i have figured out why my sub wasnt pounding its because my amp would always go out because of a faulty plug i have a new amp now and i dont know wat kind and i have new pioneer 6x9'* and all i paid for all this is $140 ah isnt life great i knew if i waited a good deal would come by....and for just info the sub pounds like crazy it sounds like theres two 12'* in the trunk
