Default Steering wheel controls fix fo 94 SSEi

I wanted to post something I just found, and maybe help others. My steering wheel controls were inoperative when I purchased the car about a month ago. (also- no control lights). Well I took apart the assy and found about three of the microswitches were fried, and eliminated anything from working from the Wheel Controls. I did some research and found the exact microswitch to replace at a ma and pa'* electronics wholeseller in Indy. They had to order them (took 1 week), but I just finished replacing 4 of the switches, installed it, and it worked like a charm. If anyone in interested, contact me and I will hook you up with as many as you want. The only downfall, the little burgers were $2.00 each (wholesellers... yeah,Right) it was a $8.00 dollar fix if you can use a soldering gun, cheap enough for me. They are a momentary microswitch (normally open) and 5mm tall. I have photos if you want to see one, didnt know how to post.

The power switch on my steering wheel doesn't work anymore. It'* not a huge problem of course so I haven't worried about it, but it wuold be nice to know how to fix it. If you post pics on the web somewhere click the 'Img' tag then paste the address of the picture, then press the 'Img' tab again.

Was it hard to take the buttons off the steering wheel? Did you have to disconnect the battery so as not to set off the airbag?

I took the controls (buttons) off according to the post in the Techinfo section (link above), and yes you have to disable the airbag to do so. Basically you disconnect the fuse, but I already had the battery disconnected, so I did both as a extra precaution.

Default Another geek solution to steering wheel radio buttons

None of the buttons worked on mine when I got it a month ago, so I decided to take it apart given the information posted here. First of all, I found that the pegs inside were extremely squishy. I decided to insert small (1/4") sections of a thin paper clip into each peg. This stiffens them but still allows some give so as not to mash the micro switch. I had one button that had a damaged activator, making the peg too short to hit the switch. I found that a 6d finishing nail cut to size is a perfect fit. The small, tapered head of a finishing nail works great as a button actuator (won't go soft in the summer heat, either) but I might be a little hard on the micro switch.
