I highly recommend XM, the quality is GREAT. Instead of using the wireless FM modulator or the tape adaptor (since I have no tape deck), I used a device that direct connects into your stock antenna. It'* basically just that box in the pics, FM antenna in one end, out the other into the back of the deck, and the XM antenna goes out the side. IT still comes across as an FM station.

The only wire I have showing is the couple inches that go to the unit (see pics) and the other inch or so that goes to the Xm antenna (pics again).

As for a unit, I really recommend the SkiFi2 that I have, it'* REALLY nice and high quality. BUt it is somewhat expensive. If that'* not an option I would go with the Roady2, good bang for your buck. IMO I would stay away from all the Audiovox ones, as they seem fairly cheap (except for that new Commander, maybe, but for that price you might as well get the SkiFi2).

I spliced into the ground and "on with ignition/acc" wires that go into my deck. So now it comes on with the car.

Thats a good idea... wish I would have thought of that before I put the deck in... its a pain in the *@&#* to get out...

I went with Sirius Satellite. I am really happy with it. I have heard a few people call in on the station I listen to and say they tried Xm but switched over to Sirius and were glad they did.

Both Xm and Sirius are similar in programming, I mean once you find your stations you will listen pretty much to them only.

I also use the FM modulation since it came with it. I used to keep my antenna on my dash but just this week put it outside on the roof and it made a big difference.

Heraing is pretty much shot so I need to figure it out with the stock deck

Well those wire will still be present, just need to figure out which ones they are. Maybe CC or Pat or some other audio/elec guru will chime in and tell you which ones they are.

I like the Roady XT the more i look at it, its the next gen of the Roady series i guess? I know my interior is a little different than ya'lls(spoken like a true MO redneck)...but heres a few pics i found to show you some of the things im considering.


I like how the cassette adapter wire goes through the vent trim, around the other trim and comes out the bottom just below the cassette area...i would most definetely do something like that, and id say mine would be mounted in a similar location, so the vent entrance is definetely the way im thinking of going for both the power and cassette wires....remove the GIANT 12v plug from this pic, mine will be hard wired thank you


this is a special mounting system, which i dont really care for, but this would be the general location i would be mounting mine, theres no room below the stock radio, the gear shifter would be in the way, and i would have to say bye bye to that cuphold(theres only 2!)...plus you can barely get your cup out of there when in D let alone park, so changing stations and things while driving would be a contortionist trick.


my antenna would probably something similar to this, although im not exactly sure how this person got the wire from this location to where it is in the pics above...all he says is:

" I didn't remove the dash, just the face plate in front of the stereo/air control and the vent. The antenna wire follows the rear window, around the paneling in the back seat, under the passenger seat, up through the center console, under the faceplace, through the air vent face plate......to the receiver"

I also need to find out for sure where my antenna is, its integrated into either the front or rear window, im just not sure which.

okay i see that you have the Neg wire spliced into the ground(big duh there) and that you have the POS wire spliced into the Igntion/Switched wire....also known as the red one.

My question is doesnt the car switch the power over to the 12v constant wire(yellow) once the car is running? so wouldnt you need to splice into both wires with the POS wire? did you do that and i just cant see it? or am i just completely wrong? also my car keeps the radio running until the doors open after the engine is shut off...i assume it just kicks it back to Ignition/Switched power, even though the key is in the Off position. am i right?
