Sold my subs again, picked up some others. - GM Forum - Buick, Cadillac, Chev, Olds, GMC & Pontiac chat

Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Default Sold my subs again, picked up some others.

Sold my 2 12" Rockford P3'* with box and poopy Hifonics Z400 amp for $330.

Then traded a Palm Pixi Plus cell phone for 2 12" Kicker CVR'*, QLogic box, Kenwood KAC-7201 amp, a JVC cd player, a Sony CD player, Lightning Audio 1 farad cap, wiring, a glitchy Blackberry Storm and a $50 tattoo! YAY!
QLogic box has the removable port blockoffs so it can be ported or sealed, but will remain sealed cause each chamber measures 1.25 cu ft with is perfect for a sealed enclosure for the CVR'*.

Ill let ya know how they sound as soon as i have the time to throw em in the trunk.

right now the ports have tubes on them, so the subs i got with the box blew and i got those kicker comp 10'*. in the instructions it didnt say what they recommend just that it will work in any type including free air. im sure they would sound better in the proper box. I listen to loud rock mostly so should i change the box build a new sealed one or leave it alone?

U plan on running the kickers for a while and u listen to rock. I would get a sealed enclosure for sure.. those subs are recommended to be put in a sealed enclosure from 1 cu ft to 2.4 cu ft per chamber. I would recommend 1.5cu ft per chamber.
Rule of thumb... stay away from bandpass boxes. lol

I repaired the one sub... threw em back in the box and threw em in the trunk. wired to a 4 ohm load on a Planet audio vx1400D. THEY SLAM for being only 800w max each. But u can def tell they r reaching their limits, time to adjust the gain

i traded a decent din and a half HU for the box, kenwood subs and an amp about 8 years ago i probably put 250k miles between two cars on em before one of the subs shorted and smoked the amp. it doesnt seem like building a sealed box would be too bad.

The standard is 3/4" MDF....if you want something a bit lighter and a little easier to work with (as in less dust, doesn't crumble, not has heavy) then you can opt for 3/4" birch. And the birch looks oh so lovely stained and sealed!

it would look weird in a car though, i was thinking about asking at a junk yard what they want for some matching trunk carpet. either way its going on the back burner till next month because my yukon apparently is lacking attention and is leaking coolant now. so im going to have to put some time into that.
