Screwed up aftermarket system - GM Forum - Buick, Cadillac, Chev, Olds, GMC & Pontiac chat

Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Default Screwed up aftermarket system

The idiot who had my car before me took out the stock Bose system. There are Pioneer 6x9'* in the rear deck, and probably Pioneers in the door now. I have the 2 Bose tweeters from the rear deck, but the dude clipped the wires and decided to run a heavier gauge wire just to the Pioneers. All these speakers sound like they're shot.

I'm taking a trip to price and probably buy some new speakers tomorrow with a friend'* 15% discount.

I also just got an amp and 2 10" subs with a box for $110 installed. The guy doing the installing (for the price of some Taco Bell) didn't run the power wire to the amp very well, and didn't even hide it. I just read the post on how to run the power wire through the firewall, and I'm going in search of a drill in a few minutes. He also didn't bolt the box down at all, so I've had to drive like a granny! Ugh. Then I get to relocate the compass sensor thingie.

I just felt like bitching at the amount of work that goes in to fixing things that people "improve" without knowing what they're doing. Hopefully I can hook up the Bose speakers and see if they still work. I'm hoping to spend under $200 on new stuff tomorrow (that'* how much I made working... on my car... this week).

How big is the box? (wide) Too bad it wasn't built to fit tight in the trunk. And you shouldn't need to drill any holes in the firewall. There is a very big hole near the driver'* side strut tower in the firewall that can easily be used for the power wire.

The box is just wide enough to not fit all the way against the back seat. I'll probably take it out and mod it when I have a little more time. My power wire is 5 gauge and only 14 feet long, so there'* no chance of me running along the driver'* side just yet. I had to relocate the amp to the side of the box just to get the power wire hidden along the passenger side... It was all up and in the door haha. Ghett-O! I'll get my hands on more wire one of these days... Maybe...

do not run the power wire down the drivers side....

im guessing you have seen my install and are drilling the connector at the fire wall?? go down the passenger side of the car....14 ft just may be long enough, but i would suggest maybe getting a larger gague power wire also
