remote turn on wire - Page 2 - GM Forum - Buick, Cadillac, Chev, Olds, GMC & Pontiac chat

Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

so I can tap in around the antenna and not at the HU? that would be less of hassle as far as running wires!

yah it saves alot of runnin wires and its cool cuz even if you have a cd or tape when you play it, it keeps the antenna up so you will always have power when the head unit is on

I did the same thing too. although I am now thinking about running a seperate remote wire because I want to put an in-dash switch in so I can turn the power antennae off.. it gets annoying because I never really need it; I always listen to cd'*, never the radio.

I've also heard that when you put an aftermarket HU in the power antenna does not extend when you're just listening to CD'* only when you're listening to the radio. So I guess this setup really only works on Stock HU applications.

yah true but why do u wanna get rid of the beautiful stock head unit with equalizer and actually fits......steering controls work without modding.......and also who is gonna steal it....wont have to worry bout that (unless your really paranoid and actually use theft lock) then theres an even lesser chance of being stolen

That would be me, the only theft deterent on my car is Theftlock (but a good one it is) The blinking LED drives my friend nuts when hes in my car without it running...

because factory stereo systems are horrible. They don't play all cd'*, let alone CD RW'* or MP3'*, they don't have pre-amp outputs and they have a lot less than satisfactory sound quality for the audio enthusiast. By just upgrading the stereo in my car (which was top of the line Buick mind you, concert sound II, etc which was a better H/U than what was in our 95 bonenville) the clarity was much better, not to mention power handling. Plus, they make adapters for the steering wheel controls. I will be buying an adapter soon for just this reason.

My fosgate HU opened up those factory speakers like you wouldn't believe. That'* what real amplification power gets you, clear sound. I can have 11 full quality albums on one CD.

On my fosgate Head Unit the antenna is only up when im in radio mode. I think stock units just have it up all the time. When i switch from CD to radio (rare) it'* quieter, and not v ery good quality for a second then it fades into the station more and more. Sounds fine about halfway extended. I'm happy it stays down in normal driving actually, gives the car a cleaner look, and it must scare people to see an antenna suddenly power up on the road.
