Do you know who manufactures the starter? It you have a "hook-up" for aftermarket products, you usually will pay much less for products. Especially if you are doing the labor yourself. So paying more might not be better, just more expensive.

As far as shorting out your horn goes, I've never seen a remote starter cause a horn failure. Yea, it might be beeping more frequently but I wouldn't worry about it.

I can't answer that for certain; I don't know what it is you'd be getting for your $120. If you can tell us what brand and model of product you're looking at, we can tell you whether $120 is a good deal for it. The point of my posting that $39.90 item was just to show that the three-lock-presses-and-it-starts feature is not an expensive option; it'* practically a standard feature, since the cheapest remote starter I know of can do it.

Regarding the URL I posted, I think that'* for BulldogSecurity products only (which I think are also sold under the Car&Driver brand), and those prices there are the lowest I've seen anywhere for them. But there are plenty of other brands out there you can choose from; everyone has their favorite. (I wouldn't say that BulldogSecurity is my _favorite_ either; it'* just the one I've had the most experience with.)

In all cases, you're not going to find Bonneville-specific instructions, although some brands are pretty good at listing color codes for GM cars, which would include Bonnevilles in general, and we can help you locate specific wires on your car where needed.

I can't imagine why; any aftermarket box that'* capable of honking the horn would access the horn circuit by triggering the horn relay, just as if you honked the horn yourself.

$120 installed sounds pretty good to me. That'* almost like getting the unit for free and just paying normal installation charges. Not bad. I'd still like to know what brand it is though. There are a couple out there that I wouldn't even let someone install the product for free. Yucky!

I agree, but make sure that this outfit knows what it'* doing. Specifically, have they ever installed this thing on a Bonneville before? The color coding of wires is usually consistent across all GM models and years, going back _decades_ in the case of some of the basic circuits, but you need a place that can dismantle important parts of your car without breaking them, and knows where to find the right components and how to connect the aftermarket stuff. So it'* not enough to just have experience installing the same thing on a different car.

Also remember if things go wrong, you have to work with these same guys to get the problem diagnosed. If they don't look like they can walk and chew gum at the same time, you probably don't want them installing stuff in the first place, let alone trying to figure out what they did wrong later.

...and by the same token, there are some places out there that I wouldn't let _touch_ my car for any reason.
