Default Premium Rear Speaker upgrade has started!

Now that I have decided to take Jinx off the road for a little while, and since money at the moment is kinda in short supply, I decided to put what I have to good use. Using my deinstalled equipment from my old Malibu (Kicker amps and Infinity Ref. speakers), a nice satin-finish black paint (which, after seeing how the color came out, I want to do my WHOLE interior this color and model it from my new Malibu color scheme), I am going headlong into the interior redo...and the first to get my attention are my rear speaker covers. I took out the tweeters, tossed them, and replacing them with Infinity Reference 1011T'*, which is part of a 6.5 component set (which I am using in place of the 6x9'* too)

So, without further delay.....

Oh, I am also tearing the carpet off the rear deck pressboard, and will use black carpet instead, to complete the Vader look

You may regret losing the dual-voice coil speakers in the rear. There'* a remarkable difference in sound quality between my two cars. One with the duals, the other without.

In addition, that black paint may tend to absorb more heat, shortening the life of the speakers over time. Consider tinting your rear window to protect the speakers if you haven't already.

I realise that. To compensate, I am adding a DVC 12" Infinity sub, turn the sub-gain inputs into low-level outputs and *try* to frequency match. At the moment, my Kenwood is internally passing all freqs past 100hz, so I think the new speakers will be safe (and if I am not mistaken, the matching crossovers automatically filter out anything below 50hz anyways)

And I was planing on tinting the rear window after I remove the rear deck...this way, the installers do not have to cut around the third brake light

I like the looks of the new tweeters in there! I have Eclipse Point Source 6x9s, and the tweeters are detachable. I want to detach them and mount them in the stock location like you have there, but I have never figured out how to detach them.

I also painted my speaker grills too, but I went with silver. I actually don't like the rear grills silver. The fronts look great, but I need to paint the rear tan again. I thought about black or dark gray, but I'd have to match the carpet too.

EDIT: Did you remove the grill screens before you painted them?

It'* my understanding he'* doing aftermarket, which is better then any of the offered OEM systems.

You've got a 6.5" Infinity Component system in back basically? Eventually i'd love to have components up front, with the exact same woofers in the back (no tweets) for rear fill only. I don't want to pull the soundstage from the front that much.

Or perhaps i'd make them switchable, if ppl are in the rear or not.

How did you paint those exactly?

I've had to put my stereo upgrade on hold due to other issues. But this is giving me new ideas .

I am holding my judgement on the look until installed pictures. Cause you could make or break the whole look during the install. So far so good though.

Those should own the stockers. I know the woofers on my 6.5" set completely own the stockers.

Although I do agree with BonneMeMN, I would have skipped the tweeters to keep the sound stage as close to the front as possible.

There is a setting on the crossovers so I can tone down the tweeters if necessary. I have one adapter made, painted, and mocked up. I came up with another idea of using 4 blue leds to highlight the actual speaker through the factory grill...basically like those walmart el-cheapo'*, but better done. I am going to test fit the whole assembly tomorrow (I have to use the Infinity grills in addition to the factory grills to acheive the led look that I want, but if the clearance between the two is going to be an issue, I will have to axe the led idea).
