Default Power Antenna Wiring

On my power antenna, I've got a green wire, a white wire, and a gray wire.... I'm guessing the green is ground.... I need a 12V power source to connect a antenna booster. Can I tap into one of the other wires? What one?

STOP.

Even without a wiring diagram in front of me, I can tell you that the green wire is probably _not_ a ground; that color code applies to household wiring but not automotive. (99% of the time, black is ground on a GM car, but even then there are exceptions.) The power antenna is bolted to the body already, so its chassis is already grounded.

I believe you may be looking at a signal wire from the stereo and power supply wires to a relay that will power the antenna (in one direction or the other; the power supply wires may reverse polarity depending on direction of antenna travel). In any event, wait for somebody with a wiring diagram to jump in here and give you specifics (hello, Fuddy?). Also, if you haven't got a test meter or 12V test probe light, now would be as good a time as any to get one.

Hang on; it shouldn't take too long to resolve this...

Right, and there is such a lead coming out the back of the stereo (it used to be a blue wire on the older units, but I don't know what the current one is). This shouldn't be too hard to sort out. If you need to add a powered booster, I think you can do so under the dash somewhere; I don't think you need to connect it in the trunk since you don't have a whole lot of antenna cable to worry about (i.e. whether the booster will be going in on the "pushing" or "pulling" end of the wire).

I thought about that.... I just figured it would be easier to get at it in the trunk than dig under the dash for it.

Do you have a 93? You're looking for the pink wire.

Can you get to the back of the radio without taking the dash apart?

The trim panel around your radio and climate control simply pops off if you get your fingers under it. It should take you 60 seconds to pull the stereo out to look at the back.
