Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Okay, so here's the deal....

Default Okay, so here'* the deal....

Alright, well, I guess I didn't think it through all the way when I bought my Volfenhaag subs last spring. They pretty much blow goats... for fun. So, I'm looking to upgrade my subs, but I would like to increase my cargo space as well. Right now I have two 12"ers running off of a Pioneer 760 watt amp. I'm thinking about getting a single 12" Alpine Type R. I would run it bridged on my amp, which would be giving it about 380 watts RMS. Is that enough power, or would I need to get a more powerful amp? I noticed that they changed the design of the Type R some time ago, and have mulitple ridges along the edge of the cone. What'* the deal with this? Does it improve sound/response/longevity or something? Let me know what you guys think. I would appreciate any feedback.

You'll want to run more power to the sub. They are rated for 500 RMS for others, like myself, run a lot more power to them because they can handle it easily in the proper enclosure (preferrably ported). I'm sending about 800 RMS to mine and love it. The new Type R'* are a great budget sub.

No problem. What type/size of enclosure are you going to put them in? I'd recommend ported 2-2.5 cu ft tuned 30-35 hz but it'* all your choice.

Those alpines are fantastic, a buddy of mine has 2 10'* in a sealed enclosure running off a Sony (crap) 760w amp. The seem to run pretty good in whatever situation they are.

I'm gonna run them in a sealed box, at 1.0 cubic feet. I don't need it to be competition loud. Just want some nice bump from a single sub. I'm not sure what amp I'm gonna get for it yet. Any recommendations?

If you're running them sealed in a box that size, I'd send them 600-700. The Alpine MRD-M605. It does 600 RMS @ 2 ohm which would be perfect for your situation. You can find them on eBay between $200-250 shipped.
